Lots of first day jitters in Gainesville that need to go away before FSU, Texas and USC. That said , lots more to look forward to this year. Holston looked great in her first day as a six rotation player. Alhassan is a gem and it will be fun to watch grow and get better for four years. Nineteen kills on twenty four swings is a good start. Gator defense looks like it may be the best in years. Oklahoma could be a serious challenge tomorrow, so the girls best not be thinking ahead.

Arkansas' win over TN State was pretty unimpressive, imo. Serve receive was shaky, with the libero having several shanks, and the serving was generally weak. The unheralded freshman setter, Hankenson, ran the team in a 5-1. No word that I've seen, but this HAS to mean that the RS Sophomore (Wohlschlager) and other Freshman (Bethke) are injured, or there is a lot of explaining to do in Fayetteville. Hankenson is quick and athletic, but her hands are only decent, and she is clearly not used to setting a higher caliber offense, especially when it came to running the middle. She is also 5'9" (admittedly with very good hops). She did okay, especially for a first game in front of the 3rd biggest crowd in program history, but I wonder if she has the chops to lead the team all year. Clark-Bibbs looks solid in the middle, and Jusino got the start opposite her. A lot of athleticism there. Harbin played OPP and had some thunderous blocks, but was only mediocre on offense. Fortado didn't see the floor, which surprised me. Dapic played opposite Hays at OH, which was very curious to me. She is tall and hits hard, but does not have much explosion. A lot to like, but a lot of head scratching, too. I would say that they don't stand much of a chance against Michigan tomorrow, but the Wolverines dropped a game to Stephen F Austin, so who knows? Hope the Hogs can get more in sync tomorrow.
ETA - Wohlschlager not injured. Played a few points Saturday in double sub. Guess Hankenson is just doing better.

Few surprises and a few I knew its I thought LSU would have performed better. A Surprise they lost in 4. I was pulling for a win in 5. Also surprise Tenessee did not utilize TJ. She must have taken a step back at LB. Baber only played in one set! Better stats and yet just one set! Lamb performed just as I thought she would. Good Job. Alabama may be a sleeper Good start for Ole Miss, as expected.

Arkansas beats Stephen F Austin 3-0. Looked a little better than last night, but still way too many errors. I think they missed 13-14 serves. At home.

Alabama may be a sleeper I don't know that the term 'sleeper' really applies to Bama any more. They are a tournament team who lost in the first round to a tough Oklahoma team and they are returning the bulk of their starters. If they don't finish in the top 4 of the conference and return to the tournament, I think they will have underachieved this season.

Well... did anybody watch the game to see what in the world happened? www.mutigers.com/sports/w-volley/stats/2014-2015/mizz2.htmllink to box score Outhit-by a lot, outdug, outblocked... Don't know if a 6-2 is the answer here. If it doesn't work against Nortwestern State then that's a major problem.

Arkansas beats Michigan in 5, roofing Cole on a slide on match point. 17 total blocks (unofficial) for the Hogs. Neither team's best, but I will take it!!
