The poll is a distraction. How about the schedule for volleyball from the Big Ten Network?

Purdue-MSU-Minnesota -- it all depends on whose young players become B1G-ready first. Or at all.

Purdue will finish much higher! I'm not so sure about this. Granted it looks like a favorable schedule only playing Nebraska and PSU once each and have Rutgers, Maryland twice each. IOWA also twice but I think teams should be careful of Iowa as they have some talent and certainly a better coach. Purdue's schedule to end is nasty and that could go south fast. If it does they would have very little momentum going in to the tourney. Therefore I wouldn't lay money on them doing better than 4th and I would not put them in my Final 4 bracket this year. Hopefully I'm wrong as I would like to see it otherwise.

I'd say everyone is under estimating Purdue this year. They will do really good in conference and will go far in playoffs.

I think Iowa is ranked a little low. IMO, they could wind up above Northwestern and possibly challenge Ohio State for 9th. I agree. Teams need to be careful not to overlook this Iowa team. They cab offer up some trap games for sure. I can see them finishing higher than OSU. But Iowa has a very difficult schedule. Do they really play Nebraska back to back?

That's Play Your Travel Partner Twice Week.

Seems exactly the way i saw all this panning out in my head. I don't think the B1G is as good as it was last year but damn the schedule is grueling. Playing any of the top 5 teams could trade loses I also like MSU and Minnesota chances to even still some wins where they are not favored.

why don't these rankings match up with the AVCA ratings? Nebraska at 2, but teams are ranked above them in the big ten according to that AVCA poll? Just wondering. Because they don't have to

Heck, Wisconsin got 8 #1 votes nationally and all they get is a lousy 3rd ranking in their league? What, exactly are you insinuating? that the AVCA poll is somehow wrong (as it usually is, to some degree, but then again so are the individual conference polls too). That the Big 10 coaches need to listen to their national peers (as if they care?). That the Big 10 is just THAT good (obviously it's a great conference, but just for balance, Nebraska landed #2 in conference with NO 1st place AVCA votes). What I took from this is that the Big 10 coaches aren't drinking the Wisconsin koolaid as much as some of the other coaches, nationally. Wisconsin is clearly the team with the biggest discrepancy in national opinion about how good they are. Judging by where they landed in the preseason poll, people either thought that they were going to be the best (as evidenced by the #1 vote) or they thought they would be mid to lower top 10 (which is where the 3rd place Big 10 probably will end up come seasons end).

Purdue's roster aside (which will be dependent on new young talent), I'm not sure how they can be called a "real sleeper" considering they are starting the year out in the top 10, nationally. Others teams know they are good. And regarding the schedule, if you mean "sleeper" in the way that they will probably be undefeated until mid october, then yes I would probably agree with you. But that's more because they play only 1 ranked team in the preseason, San Diego, and it's at home....and their road schedule for the first part of Big 10 play is Rutgers, Maryland, and Indiana.

Umm, I am insinuating that the coaches in the Big Ten have a more accurate sense of how good the teams in their league are than coaches who have no connection to the teams, players.
