You might be surprised. She worked hard and improved a lot last year from about midseason on. Quietly playing much better defense, and she and Hancock have come a long way with middle sets. She's probably Penn State's second-best server -- very tough float serve and she doesn't miss a lot. Nia has always had all the athletic ability in the world -- I suspect the challenge for her has been concentration and intensity, and the challenge of reading and anticipating. With some tremendous freshmen arriving to play middle, that should only make Grant even better her senior year. I hope so. But you have to wonder if she might become Melissa Walbridge 2.0 Walbridge was an All-American. Not the same.

More than you apparently. Stahl is a name to remember. And what can you tell us about her from watching her play? Not even you has seen every freshman playing so don't be so coy. I am basing my opinion on what I have read about her high school career, which has been awesome as follow. Prepvolleyball - "Stahl won the cherished Indiana Gatorade POY and will compete for time in the outside hitting position. Although not quite 6-0, Stahl is an absolute sky-walker and touches 10-6. Stahl pounded over 800 kills for Elkhart Central HS during her senior season and can play the entire court."

I hope so. But you have to wonder if she might become Melissa Walbridge 2.0 Walbridge was an All-American. Not the same. Well aware. My point being that both played in most but not all of their matches their freshmen years, then all of their matches their sophomore and junior years...with great recruits coming in for their senior seasons. More similarities than the 2nd-Team AA difference. If you would have told many people that Walbridge wouldn't play her senior year after what she had previously contributed to the team, they would have been surprised. Could say the same of Grant. Now, I'm certain Grant will contribute more her senior year than Walbridge did hers, but you wonder if someone like Thelen can surprise us all and be much better than we may have expected. Just musing.

You on the other hand are just pulling things off the internet and making comments as if they are your own observations or opinions. I don't know why you cant just be a fan interested in the game and learning more about it, you inject yourself in conversations that you know nothing about.

Probably because coaches like you are reluctant to share your information with others except to correct people who aren't like you. I am fan who actually loves the game and enjoys conversing about players and coaches. While I realize you follow the game because you are paid to there are others who consider it a labor of love and enjoy educating others so they can understand the game even more. I understand that you and many others do what you do as a way to feed your family and yourself but without the fans, you might not even have a job. Believe it or not this website is actually for everyone who are interested in volleyball regardless of why or how smart they are. It is not your job to try to punish people for having their own opinion or praising a player. BTW I think 800 kills is pretty impressive. Please try to understand.

All of these banters are interesting and all, but I wish VT has an icon to indicate who are the volleyball professionals and who are just opinionated fans (e.g., pelcj11). This way, we can distinguish a professional opinion vs. fan opinion. And you CANNOT vote for yourself. How about it moderators?

Fan Opinion here - The art of projecting how players will turn out 3-4 years in the future is terribly imprecise. I would like to see the credentials of some of our "professional opinions" myself. While fans can be naïve some professionals have strengthened my belief in the "Peter Principle". I have a theory that a thin blue line exists in WVB whereby coaching professionals refrain from even constructive criticism of another coaching professional for fear it could boomerang on themselves and therefore most coaching criticism comes from the fans. What do others think? Just out of curiosity "What is the minimum requirement to be a profession opinion?

Moster is the only Libero/DS to be named to the preseason All-B1G. No Justine Wong Orantes - maybe she'll be there on the Final -or- she might go the way of Kayla Banwarth.

Is this called "deliberately lowering your team's expectations"?

I think the coaches were pretty darn close. My only beefs are that Wisconsin should be higher than Nebraska, Minny should be 6 or 7, and Ohio State will finish higher than Michigan.
