I am looking forward to reports on the UWBadger scrimmage tomorrow. I am so eager to learn the starting rotation. Will there be any surprises?

Looks like the scrimmage has been cancelled due to heat and humidity. Instead, they will host an open practice after the fan fest activities are done.
Per Sheffield's twitter

Per Sheffield's twitter Major bummer, but I agree, safety first! Especially after what happened to Ito last year. Will still be at the fan fest. Gives us more to look forward to when we go to Minnesota next weekend. So glad that we are going. Even more so now.

The weather forecast looks promising next weekend too (so hopefully it doesn't get too toasty in the Pav).

I was going to post next week and ask if the Pav has AC. I infer from your comment that the answer is no. Unfortunately no. The first month of the season is normally very warm inside the Pav, especially with bigger crowds. Even though you're not going to be rooting for the Gophers , picking up the "Point U" sign they give out is a good idea. (most people use them as fans) *Hopefully the forecast stays true and the weather makes it more comfortable inside the arena though.

I hope to get to watch some volleyball tomorrow. This is a major disappointment. I also don't entirely get it, because I was thinking the same thing about the Pav probably being warm next week. Maybe the floor in the Field House is especially vulnerable to high humidity. I don't want the team exposed to any undue risk in that case, but I still feel down about it.

Speaking of preparation, is there anything that teams can do to prepare playing at altitude? That could be a concern when they head to Colorado in a couple of weeks.

I thought the same thing. Also, they will not cancel a match so why cancel a scrimmage? It is always hot this time of year. Just bring out the big fans.

Also, they will not cancel a match so why cancel a scrimmage? Why cancel a scrimmage? Because a match actually matters during the season. However a scrimmage before the season even starts makes very little impact, and why risk players getting injured.

Goodness, people. As wibadgervbfan said, a match counts, but a scrimmage doesn't. They don't have to have this event at all, ever. It's just something they do for the fans. I'm frankly surprised they're not canceling the whole thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they have open practice for 20 minutes and then call it off. I know people are disappointed because most folks aren't going to get to see them play for another month, but remember how Ito hurt herself, slipping in a sweat puddle? It was the end of her career. Her ankle will never be the same. They'd be stupid to go ahead and hold the scrimmage today. It's gross outside. Right now, it's 94% humidity and the dew point is 74, only 2 degrees below the ambient temperature. The air is so saturated with moisture that it's very near condensing on the nearest available object. According to the forecast, the only thing that will change about that between now and the scrimmage is that it'll be 90 degrees at the time of the scrimmage. Still about the same amount of moisture in the air. When it's that humid, your sweat doesn't evaporate, so it just drips off of you. The floor is going to be covered in sweat. In a scrimmage, you're expected to play like it's for real. People are running all over, diving for balls, etc., and that will just make it worse. In a practice, they can at least change the format to keep things a little less wild. I get why the Field House isn't air conditioned. It's an ancient building and it's only really used for about 4-6 weeks when AC would make a difference - a week in the summer for camps, and 5-6 weeks in late August and early September for volleyball. After that, it's not warm enough to need AC. So I understand that going in and putting AC in the Field House would be prohibitively expensive. What I'm wondering is why they can't move this event - and practices during this wretched weather - to the Kohl Center, which is ACed. I know that they can set the place up for volleyball, because that's where they had the national championships back in the 1990s when Wisconsin hosted. And it's not like anyone else is using the place right now.

Under Waite they would occasionally practice in Johnson Pav when it was hot.
What about LaBahn? I suppose flooring is the problem, but it would be a nice size.
I may not go. It was starting to get miserable there on Wed. I think the smart move is a meet and greet, and a regular closed practice at Johnson.

I will probably go in hopes of finding something about the team, maybe through the q and a session. It looks like it is going to rain, maybe heavily, so humidity will probably be more of a concern than heat.

Big concern at the moment seems to be passing and getting team chemistry. One thing the scrimmage would have helped us with is taking a look at the probable A squad. It was pretty close last year, even before injuries. I will live. Only 6 more days anyway.
