Parking at the SSC... $6.00 Admission to the Wahine match... $20.00 32 oz beer... $8.50 Watching the Wahine get swept at home by a pedestrian Sun Devil team... priceless. You mean you didn't buy a t-shirt with Shoji's face on it for $20?

normally i would be upset that they lost, but than I realize that this team has to finally find their own identity. for the past couple of seasons they had one player to depend on. this season they really don't. i mean Hawaii has the players there, in the middle and on the outsides. for me week one is never too important, because this is where the coaching staff and players get to really see and identify what really needs work. i am not sold on Higgins performance thus far, maybe it's just me but Dave really should start his freshman setter and see what she can do tomorrow. it's better to find out now. the Libero position is so idk, after having longo there, it's hard not seeing her on the court. passing again is clearly an issue, too many unforced errors especially behind the service line tonight. the freshman kinda surprised me tonight, I thought they stepped up to the collegiate level tonight. anyways, we shall see what happens and what they do tomorrow. forgive me I have not learned the name of the new players this season. I'm clueless to who all these new faces are.

I don't believe in the concept of a loss not being bad. Yes, there are things you can learn from a loss, but I don't think there was anything we wouldn't have discovered from a win. This loss was particularly stinging because I thought this was the biggest challenge of a season where the Wahine has a pretty good chance to go undefeated. The small consolation was the discovery that this team seems to have the pieces to make a deep run in the tournament this season when it looked like we may have to wait for next year.

Well I agree, I think Hawaii knowing that they can't depend on one person this season is gonna help them. I was pleased to see the freshman kinda step up. Very promising, it's all about improving. Communication is what they lack right now, other than that, I'm not too worried.

unless the coach makes changes uh is gonna get hammered by oregon. we don't have good enough outsides and good enough passing. not having good enough passing renders our two amazing middles inefficient. dave is a great coach but i don't understand why he won't take the chance on some players.

ASU is a good team and no shame in this loss. A great deal of positives for the Wahine. Just wait till Nikki comes back and the freshmen are more settled.

Sorry, but I can't agree with you on Hawaii not having good enough outsides. Haven't you noticed that Tai Manu-Olevao has hit over .300 the first two matches? This is exceptional for an outside hitter. In a couple of weeks we will have back Nikki Taylor, the second leading hitter last season after Emily Hartong. We should worry about the outsides only if Taylor disappoints when she returns from her injury. All Hawaii needs is for Long, Passi, or Greeley to step up their game for the third outside position and Greeley has shown a lots of potential. I'm sorry but Huff did not impress when she was in last night; she just lacked hitting power. Admittedly we just had a limited view of her hitting; it may have been the passing and placement of sets that did not allow Huff to hit with full arm swings. We'll find out. Shoji already has decided to use Kendra Koelsch in certain situations when a stronger block is needed. This means an opportunity to evaluate her setting skills, and whether it is truly better than Higgins. Like football, the quarterback on the bench always seem to be a better choice when a team struggles. Several Hawaii players have complained that their team have not gotten into a rhythm consistently so far. We all will have a better understanding of the potential of this team when the passing clicks and the players can hit "in system." This usually comes with experience and lots of playing time.

Have to say I enjoy "Bounce" as the line-up intro song. Very topical for volleyball!

Two beer night sounds about right but I had my fill at Honolulu Beer Works before the match, also the reason I didn't want spend a dollar more for a Heineken or Gordon Biersch.

I think I'll enjoy watching the team this year. The freshmen are all going to be contributors. Throw Nikki Taylor on the court and I think Hawaii sweeps.
I really like a lineup of Greeley and Olevao on the outside with Nikki Taylor at Opp. Kahakai at libero with Mendoza taking back row for Olevao when necessary. I'm not sold on Higgins as the starter. I love her energy and her serve. But I'm intrigued by the size and skill set of Koelsch. In the limited opportunity to see Koelsch play, I don't think Higgins brings anything to the table that Koelsch doesn't ....and Koelsch has size. One thing is for sure, the setter that finds a consistent connection with both middles should be starting. Looking forward to seeing them in person in a few weeks.
