1. Stanford 2. Penn State 3. Texas 4. Washington 5. USC 6. Wisconsin 7. Purdue 8. BYU 9. Illinois 10. Florida 11. Florida State 12. Michigan State 13. Colorado State 14. San Diego 15. Minnesota 16. Colorado State 17. Kentucky 18. Duke 19. North Carolina 20. Arizona State 21. Hawaii 22. Creighton 23. Kansas 24. Oregon 25. Missouri I have no problem moving and dropping teams based on performance after the first weekend. Stanford should be rewarded for playing tough competition and leap PSU. The first poll is almost entirely reflective of the teams finish LAST year, which has very little to do with the current year. Is American a top 25 team, no way IMO. So it makes no sense to leave them in until they lose. I'll put them in when they prove they can win. Polls should be reflective of moving people up in the poll, not waiting until they give you a reason to move them down. You have a pretty big omission on your list. Also, Minnesota only drops 3 after losing at home to an unranked team, yet Missouri drops 10 after losing on the road to an unranked team? ummm ok. Minnesota lost in extremely tight sets to a competitive Louisville team. Missouri got soundly beat in 3 sets.

If we are being honest, based purely on what I saw this past weekend, my top 10 would be:
1. Stanford 2. Purdue 3. Wisconsin 4. Penn State 5. Florida State 6. Illinois 7. BYU 8. Texas 9. Washington 10. USC

The sad part is if PSU and Stanford both lose (one will Friday obviously) Texas will taken over for the remainder of year until the tourney. It is unfortunate. Though I'm hoping Florida beats them.

But looking into the actual set scores/play of the team doesn't seem to apply to other teams and where you ranked them. For example, UW went to 5 (and most of the sets close) with unranked Gonzaga, whereas Purdue swept very good San Diego and LSU teams.

Louisville wasn't that "competitive" against Wisconsin, nor were they against any Top 25 teams last year. Minnesota fans just need to acclimate to life post-Dixon/Wittman

Washington barely won in 5 against Gonzaga last year, and yet still won the PAC-12 and got to the Final Four. You just can't read that much into a single match in the first weekend of the year -- whether it is Stanford sweeping Nebraska or Washington winning in 5 or Purdue beating San Diego. Even Nebraska losing twice in one weekend doesn't mean they won't be playing in the Final in December. It's just the first weekend.

1. Penn State 2. Stanford 3. Texas
That makes for a #1 vs #2 matchup.

However, we're predicting what the poll looks like Monday. How a group of coaches will vote. Coaches with agendas - some with biases - some who don't take the time (or have the time) to focus on matches several time zones and conferences away - and some who vote based on your reasoning. It's a new year so maybe the coaches will change their approach to the poll. But, I wouldn't place a bet on it.

Yes; And some voters will be affected by seeing the 'final' results of the poll in which they voted last week and will undoubtedly be influenced by the majority.

The polls are supposed to reflect who are the best teams NOW, not in december. Your response, while very valid on its own, is completely irrelevant for this topic.

It is unfortunate. Though I'm hoping Florida beats them. Shocker . . . don't get defensive. SOMEONE has to win. I like Florida more than Texas, get over it...we don't all have to bleed burnt orange, which, btw, NOBODY LOOKS GOOD IN!....just sayin. But, I'll give you this, I was rooting for Texas in the 09 final against PSU.
