I noticed that McColloch and Olson were missing too. Did you ever get a response from BJ on the teams?? USAV communications is super sub-par. Just got a response from Irene Pollock on twitter. US teams are Ledoux/Pollock and Sara Hughes/Claes on women's side and Hatcher/Paullin and Lorenz/Vanderwerp on men's side. Yeah, they were listed on BVB when I got up this morning. Don't know anything about Lorenz...

Didn't think Sara and Kelly could play in 'outside' tournaments once school starts, why the exception with NORCECA?

Didn't think Sara and Kelly could play in 'outside' tournaments once school starts, why the exception with NORCECA? NORCECA (and FIVB) events are technically considered national team duty - they're representing the USA and playing other countries (Mexico, Cuba etc) as opposed to playing individuals (AVP). And anyone playing for a USA national team is automatically exempt from any NCAA rules on out-of-season or outside competition.

Wonder how long they stay committed to playing AVP? Just curious why you say that? They are still young, they knock on the door of the avp main draw every qualifier and sometimes get in, they seem to have a good balance with their careers and training to compete and family. I would hope they would stay on for few more years unless they don't enjoy playing anymore. Sure. They have been playing a lot of AVPs that involve travel for the last two years, and last year they had a lot of success. They won some main draw matches, qualified 2 out of three times and beat Sean/Phil. That followed up on a lot of regional and smaller tour success they have been having for a while, a couple Motherlodes in a row, the Wide Open tourneys. But this year they plateau'ed and didnt really build off last year's success. They failed to qualify in every event before Huntington and just generally seemed to be a step behind where they were. Given the time and money they have to invest in playing, practicing and travelling to be competitive I just wondered if maybe this year's lackluster results were an indicator that their time was coming

could be turning their year around:
The Bomgren brothers pull off the win! They take down @billyketchallen & Crabb in 3 sets, 14-21, 21-17, 15-13 #AVPHBCHAMPS

Adrian offering extensive input into Stafford's blocking technique. Right out of the timeout Stafford does get a couple.

Shame those guys lost. That was a fun story. They played well, but at the end of the match Keenan, big stiff that he is, was still much taller than Tramblie and that made the difference

Jose Loiola on the sidelines coaching Casebeer/Montgomery, looks as excitable as ever. Shame injuries derailed his dominant period

Hudson/Dave beating Casebeer/Montgomery was not a well played match but it was extremely exciting. Great win for Hudson/Dave and a great way to end the year with a career finish for both guys, even if they lose their next match. A game against Drost/Olson to get into the Quarters is almost certainly the easiest chance they will ever get. (not that Avery and Matt are a walk in the park)
Just because I feel compelled to whine, if Geeter or whoever is announcing could not detract from a 19-19 tie in the third by trying to get fans who arent interested in doing it to slow clap, that would be great

Sweat makes such great digs, but her partner's transition sets are all over the place today, throwing away point scoring opportunities.

Just waiting to jump on my flight home after the tourney, so here are a few thoughts:
This was my first tourney since Santa Barbara last year. It felt like a lot of progress has been made since then. - First, the set up is definitely more fan-friendly. They've moved all of the action for Friday and Saturday to the outside courts. So, you have Dusty the announcer on stage in front of the bracket as well as DJ Roueche out there. Dusty follows the action on all 3 courts which is pretty cool. I spent most of Friday and Saturday running between courts, catching close matches and 3rd sets. They're still playing on the stadium if you like that sort of thing, but it's pretty quiet in there til Sunday. - Seems like the technology is much better. they have electronic score boards on each court and it looks like they have volunteers with ipads keeping them updated. I checked on my phone at avpscoring.com and it was fully updated real time, which was also good for running between courts if something interesting was happening. They were also updating times and court numbers on bvbinfo.com, so that made it easy to figure out where we were going next. - While I will probably always prefer a 32 team draw, they make the 16 team draw work. On friday, they just ran 3 courts (stadium, 1 & 2) and every team just played once. That gives a chance to see alot of the teams and it brings everyone back on Saturday. It also makes Saturday more intense as the day goes on with all of the contenders bracket matches. - Inside the stadium, they've moved Dusty and DJ Roueche and the AVP staff under one of the bleachers and they announce from there, instead of the old method of having one side of the stadium be a big stage how they have in the past. This way you have fans on all four sides. guessing you would get about 2000 - 2500 with a full stadium. Not sure if Dusty comes out between plays because I skipped the finals and watched them on TV up the street. - I thought there were pretty good crowds throughout the weekend - Friday was even pretty packed and Saturday was the busiest. - Overall it was a great tourney in my opinion. there were 20 - 30 people I knew from AZ out for it and I'd say about 1/4 were first timers. I had a few people tell me they are now addicted and never want to miss another tourney. I do think once you get people out there - especially on a saturday - they have a blast. - Couple of quick thoughts on players. I thought Slick and Adrian played really well and were fun to watch as they got their 2nd 3rd in a row. They were so close to going to the finals - they match against hyden/bourne was great. I hope they streamed it. Also good to see Dave MacKenzie and Bates get to Sunday coming out of the quali. They were playing with passion and hitting the ball hard all day Saturday. It does get a little boring when you get to April and Kerri but there were a lot of great battles 2-15 all weekend on the women's side. It was fun to watch Ty and Rosie, but they got a rough draw. Would have been interesting to see what they could have done if they would have had another match or two together.
