Yes, watching Florida's backups stick it to Miss St was shameful to have on TV. The only reason the last set was competitive were the ~7 serving errors FL had in that set alone.

Geoff Carlston. Ohio State. A lack-luster start, including losses to Illinois State and Ohio U. I think this may be a little hasty. OSU is just warming up.

The DePaul seat is getting toasty hot. No good excuse for that team to be failing for so long, and now getting worse. Nice neighborhood and good school to recruit to.
How long will Yelin hold his Syracuse job? Will mediocre results satisfy the AD?

The Colorado coach has a pretty poor record in five or six years there. I will be watching them against UCLA tomorrow.

How long will Yelin hold his Syracuse job? Will mediocre results satisfy the AD? DePaul is in a great neighborhood to live in, not sure about for a university. This is a case of small academically viable institution who tried to do too much. I believe they are still paying, figuratively, for the disastrous decisions made in the 80's and 90's. Their problem now is revenue and I don't think volleyball amounts to a hill of bean's worth of difference in their scheme of things.

Any ideas about when Mississippi State is going to start taking Volleyball as seriously as other sports? This team needs a strong coach to get them in shape. Will be very surprised if the coach is not replaced at the end of the season. A good VB player does NOT equal a good VB coach.

I think some of their other sports are good because they focus on being good in a few sports rather than just being average at everything. They do not have the prestige/reputation, money, and demographics of the other schools in the SEC. Their football team's success so far this year is quite impressive and makes me thing that their athletic department's energy is highly focused on football and baseball, perhaps more so than other schools in case you think I am just stating the obvious.

Please disregard my misguided post above about Colorado. They looked really good today and, to be honest, are on the right track. They blocked like crazy today against UCLA and they have a solid team with only a few Seniors.

Taylor Simpson (and ability to bring along Jan and Cindy) pretty much single-handedly saved Kritza's job.

On the surface that may appear correct, but at the end of the day Miss State is in the SEC which is a premier athletic conference, they have money, and the campus is actually very appealing to the eye. It appears that most of their athletes come from 4 states (MS, LA, AL, and TX) outside of TX, not exactly the hotbed for volleyball, but they have had some very good recruits the last couple of years. The problem is that for some reason over the last several years the players have left after first or second season. Last year they looked like they may be turning the corner and improved with 3 or 4 wins in the SEC from the previous year of not winning a set. Then 5 or 6 of the 9 players in the rotation that were freshman or sophomores all transfer. Look back over the years and there seems to be a pattern, maybe not as extreme as last year, but something is not right to have this happen regularly with their best players. Each of the players that left last year went to programs that are top 25 or bubble top 25 (Oklahoma, Miami, Iowa State, Louisville, K-state, etc.) and are all starting and heavy contributors. I think if those players had stayed they may have been in the 4-8 range in the SEC this season..... but it also appears the parts are greater than the whole and when this applies to a team then you have to look at the coach and why this is the case. Maybe I am just stating the obvious as well.

Good point about the transfers, I agree with you on that one. However, Mississippi State's endowment is the lowest in the conference at around $400 million, compared to Texas A&M at the top with $8.7 BILLION (source: wikipedia). I know that the athletics budget isn't as extremely disproportionate as that, but money does make a difference.
