Wow and its early in the season but the preseason conference standings may have all been flipped. In the PAC-12 it looks like Stanford is the best team in the country and Washington impressed against BYU but after that it looks like anyone could finish third. All the other teams outside of Oregon suffered questionable losses. USC, ASU, Arizona, who wants it more and will the Trojans, SunDevils and Cats rebound.
In the next best conference the B1G everything has changed. Penn State seems to be young but so far look like the favorite followed by Wisconsin who has yet to lose either. All the teams following them have started off with losses. Nebraska, Purdue, Illinois, Minnesota. All playing catch up?
Who do we think will finish third in their respective conferences? Or do we think those top 2 teams in both conferences will go down too.

Kingdon is AMAZING, but not even she can help Arizona to a third place finish by herself. Poor girls arm is going to fall right off

All of them have holes in their game right now, but Stanford the least so. I think ASU has the least depth of any of those teams, so is the least likely to end up the winner. Washington and USC have the most weapons, but have new liberos and need to gel. Oregon is really young in many key starting spots. Stanford returns almost everybody, but that's kind of the problem -- that team wasn't able to win the conference or get to the Final Four last year, so will the same players be able to do it this year?

You don't seem to put much value in returning starters. Players generally improve with more experience. Will the "same players" be able to do it this year? These are players with one more year experience as starters under their belts. I have always been Bugg's harshest critic, but I realize that I am not cringing and quietly cursing as much during matches this year; in other words, she is looking better this year. She is starting to understand the importance of establishing the middle on this team, as it is their strength. And her placement is getting better, too. I realize she is still not as good as Carlini or Hancock, but for the first time I feel like she might be able to deliver. Also, Boukather is solid on the right, with Brown offering great depth there. A solid senior libero; and the addition of Benjamin helps in the back court with better passing and defense. And Lutz is proving that there is no weak spot in the middle (at least offensively). With six blocks against Santa Clara, she shows she is no slouch defensively, either. In summary, I must disagree with you: returning most of their starters most certainly is NOT a problem.

The only team in the big 10 who can beat Penn State is Penn State. And by that you mean Penn St.'s star-laden reserve squad?

I agree with you I don't think any team will enter the post season undefeated but Stanford and maybe Texas have the best chance. The B1G is the same too much depth and inexperience for a team to go through the conference unblemished.

Texas isn't going to have many chances to lose once their conference season begins. Maybe Kansas or Iowa State can give them a tussle.
The idea that the only B1G team that can beat Penn State is Penn State doesn't apply this year. I can think of at least two teams that could finish ahead of the Lions.

But Stanford plays too many top opponents. They are bound to lose to somebody. Maybe several somebodies.

The only team in the big 10 who can beat Penn State is Penn State. I don't think this is true, I think Wisonsin is a very big threat. Also Nebraska always seems to show up when playing against Penn State, (last years match was some of the best volleyball I have ever seen.)

Nebraska maybe as well, but realistically, it's penn state and Wisconsin for the top two spots and a dog fight after that.
