UCLA's defense was very impressive tonight. They will be a dangerous team in conference play.

Bruins back row >> USC back row. The front row too, mostly cause of Lowe.

Karsta Lowe with 22 kills, hitting .357. Impressive!

Lowe ends it. Bruins made that look a lot more interesting than it was. Dominant performance. Two of these sets were decided by 2 points and one of them went into extra points hardly a dominant performance but I will say this is a good win for UCLA.

UCLA looks good. Their back row defense and libero are great, karsta lowe is amazing and their blocking is pretty good too. If they could get the freshman outsides to grow up a bit, carry a bigger load, and help karsta out, the bruins will be deadly come the end of the season

The last set should not have been that close with all the errors being committed by the Bruins. Anyone who actually watched the match probably could have came to that conclusion.

I don't know if I am sold on UCLA just yet but this was a good win. I just don't know if they can win their conference or compete for the NC relying so heavily on just Lowe. I am sure she will get hers but would she be able to hit past or through a big block that just camped on her. I am thinking the likes of Texas and Washington.

It's not like Illinois, Penn State or USC were running tiny blocks at her. I don't think anyone's propping UCLA up for PAC-12 championships or a title run right now, but anywhere from 3-5 in the PAC and being seeded don't look crazy either.

As much as I talk about how it's the end of the world with how bad we are this season, I have to remember that this was going to be a rebuilding year for USC. Quite honestly though, at this point I'm okay with this being a year to develop the crop of young players, especially Dunn and Abercrombie. They're what we're going to be riding for the next 3 years, a mobile MB and a left-handed bomber are two things we haven't had in a while, so I like that they're getting experience.
- I'd also rather Mick just rest Nwanebu until she's 100%. I thought it was some leg injury sustained with the NT but if they say she hurt her back, that's scary and you don't want to risk her aggravating it. Just use your senior RS in Emily Young and Abercombie to give her some experience. - Crone and Pizzasegola are disappointing me this year, which is surprising given how solid they were last year. Maybe it's the passing, but I give Alice a lot more slack because this is still only her second year in the states and she's just a sophomore who is completely changing her technique. Hayley is a senior and a captain who should know better. - Never had my tonsils taken out so no clue on how far along Elise Ruddins is, but she was in sweats on the sideline so that's better than the street clothes she was in two weeks ago. I want her to replace Gillis immediately. Sorry, Lauryn, but unless the passing gets sorted out and you can put the ball down consistently, I'll go with Ruddins. - And again I prefer Schmidt to Whittingham at libero.
Come on Mick, make some changes. Pretty please! The future for USC looks much brighter than what we have right now, so that's very promising looking ahead. (I just wish they would do better now haha) Just gotta roll with the punches this season, I guess!

PSU held her to the low .200 I believe. Illinois should have done better, but they played like a high school team that night. UCLA and SC, especially SC, both have terrific potential for improvement, but I sure liked UCLA's overall game plan and their much, much better defense. Vintage (if a coach with 100 wins can have vintage anything) Mike Sealy effort tonight. This is one of the worst SC defenses I have seen. Hate to attribute too much to Hagglund, but this defense is empty without her, and their block is inconsistent. SC is just laying low until they can take Stanford down as they did last year.

Shoutout to Taylor Wheatley, USC freshman that gave USC a chance in the 3rd set. That was a pretty solid call from Mick Haley, and very Gutsy..
