Well, Shebby has won FOW twice, and so has Scambray.
Any other candidates emerging?

Gabby Simpson is setting/hitting for Colorado and could pick up a few if they start winning.
Personally, I think MaryKate Marshall has FOY on lock if the Beavers make the tournament. She's gonna have some gaudy kill and dig numbers and she's the biggest personnel change on a MUCH improved team. She'll probably have a low hitting percentage, but still...

You know these "individual" awards often go to players on the highest profile teams, though....

Mary Kate Marshall will have the best raw numbers since she is shouldering the load there, while all the other freshmen are really complementary pieces. Gabby Simpson's hitting numbers are actually terrible so far... she'll have to start hitting a few triple doubles to vault her past the others I think.
Lutz is a redshirt but she's been really good too.

Are Redshirts eligible for the award? I don't think so. Then again, Lutz was nominated by Stanford for the weekly FOW award.

A player who isnt on a team near the top of the conference will have to have SIGNIFIGANTLY better numbers than players who are on the top teams. Given this, Shebby, Scambray have an advantage.
I don't think RS Freshmen qualify for FPOY
I also dont think that weekly awards or stats in the preseason are used to evaluate all conference/POY awards.

Then again, Lutz was nominated by Stanford for the weekly FOW award. Antoinette Polk was a redshirt freshman at USC when she was named conference FOY in 1997

Nwanebu was both PAC FOY and AVCA National FOY. Was she a redshirt FR? If so, then obviously I must have been wrong and redshirt FR are eligible.
That being said, I think it's hard for a MB or a setter to beat out an OH. And it's even harder to win it as a libero. No, that's not fair, but it does seem to be the pattern.
Since 2000, the winners have been:
April Ross OH Kim Glass OH Oganna Nnamani OH Kristin Richards OH Christal Morrison OH Foluke Akinradeo MB Taylor Carico S Alix Klineman OH Amanda Gil MB Lauren Cook S Falyn Fonoimoana OH Krista Vansant OH Samantha Bricio OH Ebony Nwanebu OH
Notice also that every one other than Kim Glass came from only four schools: USC (5), UCLA (2), Stanford (4), and Washington (2). In fact, since 1991 (23 years), there have been 8 players from Stanford, 7 from USC, 5 from UCLA, 2 from Washington, and 1 from Arizona. Not a good sign for the girls from Colorado or OSU.

As good as Mary Kate Marshall from Oregon State is, I don't think she's as good as the first two mentioned. On a bad team or not.
Most likely Scrambray gets it with UW ending with a better season.

Pardon my ignorance- but was just wondering, are these season long conference awards awarded based on players' performances for ALL matches (including non-conference)? Or, are players only evaluated based on their play during conference play?

Pretty sure Nwanebu did not redshirt. Also, as impressed as I've been with Lutz, so far I'd give the award to Scambray, even if redshirts are eligible.
