Exactly why do you like the last line. It sounds terrible like his ego is so big that it couldn't possibly be his coaching or something. I think he is the best coach in WCVB but this sounds like at first he is trying to take responsibility for it but then saying that the players aren't good enough. I think it ultimately comes down to coaching. He makes the line up and to suggest its the players is ridiculous Penn State gets their pick of the litter when it comes to recruits so I don't know.

I think you're misinterpreting the quote. It's Rose's sardonic way of saying that it doesn't matter whether it's his fault or the players' fault, he'll do whatever it takes to win.

I love what Hancock said as she hit one more error than aces. Trying to be accountable except she in my opinion was not the problem at all. Her serve very much kept her team in the match and she had long service runs because of her and multiple scoring opportunities because Minnesota when they got her serve up were out of system.

Does Hancock still only hit the cutty from left to right ? Does she ever go wrist-away down the line or even stand on the other side of the court to create even more angles for the passers to consider ? Just asking, actually don't know...

I like the comment because it indicates that Rose realizes that he has to do a better job coaching the serve or needs to find players who can do better. How do coaches "Coach the serve." Do they film the server, analyze their form, determine what needs to be corrected and then how do they incorporate necessary change into the servers form. How often is the server's form analyzed.
Any college server who can answer this.....

Either you like his sense of humor or you don't. I know I do. More important, I think most of his players do.

Agreed Ruffda, hell it was just a form of motivation- and sardonic and funny as he is often ... and his players thrive in that environment- that why they win championships...

I like his sense of humor and it's also worth noting that Penn State is racking up a lot of errors while making heavy use of serving subs -- who are presumably in there because they have good, accurate serves.

And who are presumably spending much of their time practicing serving, since that's all they're doing in matches, but they're also on a hot seat for the same reason. Better errors now than later, in other words.

I don't know. Can sense of humor and elite athletes coexist?

I suppose he is making them serve overhand.

I don't know. Can sense of humor and elite athletes coexist? Are you questioning whether Russ is an elite athlete?

On the other hand, Coach Rose didn't need to make subs for that because he got 12 alone from his starters. Nobody likes that many errors but it sure helps when you sideout 14% higher than your opponent on a night like that and carry a season hitting percentage of.372. I'm sure the "miss" bug will be addressed and the team will be made stronger to overcome similar environmental situations like that again.
