Two possibly powerful teams by the end of the year with high-end potential face of tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 CT on BTN at Rec Hall. The Gophers have had the clear upper hand in head-to-head matchups in recent history, but an older, more experienced Illinois squad is the favorite going into tonight, and has been more consistent thus far this season.
Should be a competitive and exciting match!

Correction: match is being played at Illinois' Huff Hall. Hopefully, it will be a great match between two rated teams!

And Minnesota has plenty of talent, which showed well in sets 1 and 4 against PSU. Tough game for both teams.

This is almost a MUST win for both sides; the loser might very well have a tough fight bettering .500 going to the two Michigans.

I disagree I don't think either team will get swept by the Michigan's I expect this to be a good match. Illinois can be the most dangerous team in the B1G but they never seem to play consistent enough so we shall see.

Ill with a loss will be 2-1 w/ wi, oh, PSU, Iw, Neb, In, purdue. Mn with a loss will be 1-2 w/ Northwestern, Maryland, rutgers, wi, wi, Neb, iowa, in, Purdue. I think one can very well see either tonight's losing team 5-5, or 6-6 going on the road to Mich and Mich State.

I think this will come down to the Illini front line defense - when they are "on", they win. Against Minn they will have to be "on". I will be in Huff Hall screaming right along with the fantastic student section, pep band, and large #s of knowledgeable fans - Go Illini! Our new libero is appearing to be a frosh phenom - freshmen just don't play this well in such a critical position. She has been so much more than one could expect from a FRESHMAN Libero...

I wouldn't call this a must-win for Minnesota. But I do think going 1-1 on this trip will be extremely important. In short, they lose tonight and the match against Northwestern becomes really, really big.
If they want to contend for top 4 in the conference, that is.

Match starts in about 5 mins on BTN.
I always have to make my pre-match prediction, so I'll go Gophers in 5. (25-22, 21-25, 28-26, 23-25, 15-11)

Huff looks like it has new floor/paint and new seats. Looks sharp.

15 points into the match and it looks like Illinois' passing and digging are still suspect (certainly at this moment). Put PSU's defenders on the floor and this is a NC team.

If I said it once, I'll say it again. Defenders need to pick it up. Oh, and whose sets would you rather be hitting? A lot of MN sets 2-3 feet off the net, a lot of IL sets 5-8 feet off.
