Yeah, but Zhu Ting's improved quite a bit in terms of receiving and passing compared to her previous year. Also, according to some of the news articles I read, Zhu started cramping after set 2 in the final so she didn't play the 3rd set. She's also completely exhausted after the match with DR but luckily there was a day of rest for her to recover before the semis. Another funny thing is that the Chinese team didn't eat any meat during the whole tournament due to fear of illegal growth hormones. That's funny, considering what you might actually find in food in China. You shouldn't believe everything you read. Hopefully they ate fish then. Vegetarian, vegan diet is horrible for athletes.

You can see the mantra that Karch is setting up for Rio, and he should be right. Go in as underdog, but know you can win. The World Cup winner seems determined by the order of matches as anything, as the first three winners qualify for the Olympics. I noted that teams did not do well in the match following their qualification, which is natural. For posters comparing the Chinese star to Hill, the Chinese 19 year old star was out of the finals match for long stretches, probably because of physical reasons. Worn out after 60 + swings in prior matches. US did receive the benefit of resting Larson earlier through her play in the semis. Tournament has way too manyy matches compressed into too little time, however. Agreed. The men's schedule of every-other is much more conducive to high-level play. A tournament like WGP Finals is a perfect example. With 5 days in a row, the quality of the matches often declines. This is why we were so invested in rotating players early in the tournament and resting as much as possible, even though it led to some uneven play early on. With fatigue having a cumulative effect, you might not know a player is drained until it's too late. We also got a little lucky, if we had a different draw and had to play 4 matches in a row to finish the tournament (instead of 2-off-2), it would have really affected our middles with the state their bodies were in. As it was they had to battle through a lot of pain. That's why depth is so important. China too; they have a very good middle go down and another one steps in and plays really well. In a way, that injury almost helped them. However, they didn't quite have the depth on the left to hande Zhu Ting being off her game, although we were (happily) surprised they pulled her so quickly. Game 4 might have gone differently if they started her instead of waiting to bring her in.

Any rumors or news on whether the same 14 player rotation, declaring 12, will be a go at the Olympics? or, probably more importantly, the World Cup next year?

No. Brazil has a ranking system within its professional league and there is a limit as to how many players ranked as 7 (the highest ranking you can have) on one team. Since Thaisa and Fe Garay are already on the roster, Jaque cannot play for Molico. Also, Jaque is VERY expensive, not only in Brazil but around the world...She is in as tough a situation as I've ever seen in pro volley.

Isn't Fe Garay going to be playing with Dinamo Krasnodar this season? I don't mean to discredit her, but I think she's being a little overdramatic. If she doesn't want to leave Brazil this club season, fine. Take some time off, be with your family, etc. But why retire? She was Brazil's best OH this tournament and the Olympics are in her home country.

Maybe she can do a volleyball retirement tour for the next decade in the style of Cher. I bet she'll be playing Rio.

I don't know the timing but it seems she could get back for the national team summer, even without playing professionally. Also, this is a good way to get the prospect of playing on a team out there. But I know she had personal tragedy and that her family is strong. Maybe she can join Logan and play on some "extra" team in Rio.

It's my first post here, so congrats on the WCH title!
Jaque did have offers from other clubs, Pinheiros and SESI, I think. If I'm not mistaken, SESI only has Fabiana with 7 points and Pinheiros doesn't have anyone. The thing is that they can't afford to hire her (as of today, at least).
She can't play at Osasco because Thaísa and Dani Lins have 7 points. Fe Garay is, indeed, playing in Russia next season.
Also, she has never said she is retiring, what she actually said was that the game against Italy had probably been her last this year.
Some people wanted to get rid of the ranking, but it didn't happen, unfortunately.

It's only been a week and I'm still all fired up. Don't want this thread to die on page 4. While most of the team is all spread over the world it sucks that they can't be together to celebrate! Keep celebrating ladies. You deserve it.

I agree, I don't want to see the thread end either. Let's continue to celebrate till Rio! But when does club season start in Brazil and overseas? Does anyone have information on what website show the different leagues matches?
