Butler looses both starting oh and their best mb... Uh oh, I'd say that makes St. John's the favorite for 2nd. Do you think that they could beat Marquette? I have not really followed St. John's volleyball a whole lot but it seems like they have a shot to take 2nd.

Tough to say at this point - St John's only has one true stud in Palgatova, the rest of the line-up would have to step there game up.

FYI butler lost those kids to graduation not injury. I think butler is still pretty good, just down from the last two years
Depaul over Xavier is a big surprise. The league is wide open.

Youth was served in the Marquette Butler game last night. RS F Taylor Louis was dominate with 20 kills. Butler is really young and has 2 to 5 freshmen on the floor at all times.

I have a couple questions regarding the Big East this year because there have been some surprising results. I have not really watched any Big East teams play this season besides Creighton, so if anyone could give me some insight that would be great.
Creighton- Is anyone else good enough to beat Creighton in the league? It seems as if they are the clear favorite to win the league with many decisive victories, but they also were taken to 5 sets by last place DePaul at home. Jaali Winters has been impressive as a freshman and has established herself as one of the leagues top players, so could she possibly be in the running for player of the year?
Villanova- How good is this Villanova team actually? I have never seen them play but they are 5-1 in league with their only loss at 1st place Creighton. Is Loitz an impact transfer for this team?
Xavier- Abby Bessler is a great outside hitter, but does Xavier have anyone else to help her? Will they make the Big East tournament at the end of the year? They did sweep Marquette at Marquette but then they lost to DePaul.
Marquette- What is going on with Marquette? I expected them to do much better. Is it because the teams they have played have gotten better or is it because Marquette is just not doing well? They had a pretty good preseason schedule and Taylor Louis played very well, but it seems like she wasn't doing well compared to preseason. At Creighton she really struggled.
Seton Hall- It is no question that this team is nowhere near where they were last year, but it seems like they have some good talent. Why isn't Grace Forren playing though? She was putting up some good numbers but she didn't play after a while. Will Tessa Fournier repeat as defensive player of the year? I think a 700 dig season is going to be extremely hard to duplicate, but she already has 347 so who knows?

Creighton will win out if their starting setter is healthy. They've lost sets when she hasn't played. It doesn't look like bird is playing all the time either. It looks like they are trying to limit those two to save them for later in the year
Villanova, yup Loitz is leading them in kills per set, hitting around .300. But they have a couple other really good players including terry pettit's kid who is up there in assists per set nationally
Xavier lost their outside hitter (not bessler) for a few matches and if she's back they'll be pretty good.
Marquette is up and down... Taylor Louis sure takes a lot of swings, so if she's good, they are too.
Seton hall is so young, as is butler and Georgetown. Those teams need some experience before they are good.
St. John's is probably 5th right now, but they have injuries.
DePaul has the ability to be good. But they aren't winning matches.
Providence beat seton hall...

Villanova also has Gabby P back who red-shirted last year, that certainly is helping their success.

This year is completely different from previous years. No team goes in with certainty that they will win. Yes Creighton will probably be number one but did anyone else see DePaul take them to 5 in Creighton? And besides beating Seton Hall, Providence went 4 with Villanova in a very close match! Villanova is a completely different team with Loitz and Gabby and I think they can beat anyone in the conference. Marquette had a huge hole to fill when Bailey left. They lost in 3 sets in each of the conference matches that they lost and it wasn't pretty. Xavier is good but not unbeatable. St John's is inconsistent but I think they will upset teams with their blocking. Seton Hall and Butler are playing more freshmen then upperclassmen but both could pull out a win in any given match. (SHU's Forren is injured) And Georgetown is young but can be tough! I think Creighton, Villanova, Xavier will be the top 3 and then its a crap shoot for number 4 between Marquette, Seton Hall and St John's. It has been fun watching the matches because no team is steam rolling over all their opponents!
