This year is completely different from previous years. No team goes in with certainty that they will win. Yes Creighton will probably be number one but did anyone else see DePaul take them to 5 in Creighton? And besides beating Seton Hall, Providence went 4 with Villanova in a very close match! Villanova is a completely different team with Loitz and Gabby and I think they can beat anyone in the conference. Marquette had a huge hole to fill when Bailey left. They lost in 3 sets in each of the conference matches that they lost and it wasn't pretty. Xavier is good but not unbeatable. St John's is inconsistent but I think they will upset teams with their blocking. Seton Hall and Butler are playing more freshmen then upperclassmen but both could pull out a win in any given match. (SHU's Forren is injured) And Georgetown is young but can be tough! I think Creighton, Villanova, Xavier will be the top 3 and then its a crap shoot for number 4 between Marquette, Seton Hall and St John's. It has been fun watching the matches because no team is steam rolling over all their opponents! Excellent points!!! Second half of the season should be really interesting.

Xavier hosting creighton in 30 min, picks? Creighton has the most depth and talent, but chronic injuries to Baumert and Bird can make them vulnerable. I see one loss at the most for Crieghton unless Baumert is unable to play a match.

Villanova beats Seton Hall and is now 8-1 in conference.
The 4 teams in the Big East tournament are gonna be Creighton, Villanova, Marquette, and Xavier. I don't see St. John's going on a run -- and unless Seton Hall goes on a huge run like they did at the end of last season. This Seton Hall team not as talented

Seton Hall is too inconsistent to crack into the top 4 and St. Johns is too one dimensional with their offense in my opinion with Palgutova taking most of their swings. The end of season tournament in the Big East should be interesting.

Congratulations to Taylor Louis for being both Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week. It made me look at how well are freshmen contributing this year in the Big East.
From the 6 categories listed on the website and counting the freshmen who qualified here is the breakdown. The categories are normalized per set:
Kills: 8 of the 20 or 40% (plus 3 of the top 5) Assists: 3 of the 12 or 25% Aces: 4 of 20 or 25% Blocks: 3 of 6 or 50% Digs: 4 of 20 or 25% Points: 9 of 20 or 45%
My conclusion is the freshmen are contributing quite well.

I think we'll see this become the trend as the Big East continues to attract A level players. Still a ways to go as a league but a few teams are having success and it will eventually find its way throughout the league.

Big East is attracting talented freshmen. I think it will help recruiting (if not the budget for recruiting) that there is no big-time football at Big East schools. VB has a chance to be the #1 or #2 (next to soccer) Fall sport at the school. Also, all of the BE schools offer a strong education. Creighton players have mentioned that they were attracted to the chance to travel to large cities on road trips, with every BE school being in a big city.
Key for the BE along with recruiting talent is retaining it. Think how much better the league would be if Bailey were still at Marquette to team with Louis, for example.

I see one loss at the most for Crieghton unless Baumert is unable to play a match. This. DePaul put a scare into Creighton only because Creighton was experimenting with a 6-2 with Crawford and Jansen setting. When the Bluejays fell behind 0-2, they reverted to the 5-1, brought Baumert off the bench, and dominated the match. Assuming Baumert can play 2 matches a weekend, as she did at Butler/Xavier last weekend, the league race is over unless Villanova can knock off the Bluejays in Philly next weekend.

Looks like the top 4 is pretty much solidified. I don't see Marquette or Xavier losing enough matches to drop out of the top 4.

Yes. Two is more likely than three. Marquette's position improved with their home win over Villanova last weekend. Now 5-4 vs Top 50 with a chance to overtake Villanova for 2nd in the league race. The Golden Eagles need to win 1 of @xavier or vs.Creighton, and win out against everyone else. Villanova now needs to run the table, including a win vs.Creighton this Friday and win @xavier. Creighton would be in good shape even with road losses @villanova and @marquette, as long as they win their other 4 games.

Not sure Villanova has to run the table. Probably they can lose to Creighton, then need to beat Xavier or a match in Omaha at the tournament.

Villanova over Creighton last night...I don't think that changes anything for Creighton. They didn't have a shot at a seed, but it might change things for Villanova's shot at an at-large.
