I think Bates and Chapman read this and say "those dorks over on VT can't tell us apart so we'll keep it that way by wearing matching headbands." I think Bates has a faster arm swing and is more powerful in her shots. I agree that I don't see the 2015 team as better than this team. Even the miracle run of the 2004 Fab Freshman to the round of 8 was after a so-so, but better than expected regular season. So in that respect it could have a winning pattern similar to the 2013 team. You don't really think they read VT, do you? That's a terrifying thought. Some do. Can't speak for WI players, though.

To address a comment above, I think other teams single out and gang up on Chappy because statistically speaking, she's the obvious choice amongst our pin hitters. She may not have the highest hitting percentage, but in terms of number of attempts, raw kills per set, and points per set, she's the one to shut down.
Player - Hitting percentage - Attempts - Kills/set - Points/set Chappy - .247 - 579 - 3.06 - 3.51 Court - .348 - 371 - 2.75 - 3.20 Bates - .185 - 475 - 2.72 - 3.03

Somebody once tweeted at Chappy & Bates asking them to please wear different colored headbands at away matches so they'd be easier to tell apart on TV. I think they have been doing it, but they've been identical at home lately. And of course on Wednesday, everyone was wearing pink.

Usually Bates is the blurry one flying in from outside the picture, and chappy is the elegant one picking her shot, but lately Bates has been changing it up. This last match I didn't find that distinction that helpful. You'd think 5 inches difference would be more obvious, but they have the same build and I guess frame of reference on TV makes it harder. It would probably be easier to tell them apart looking from the endline.

I guess then the question is why keep going primarily to Chappy despite the fact that teams hone in on her. Looking at her error rate, it is damn low...8.6%. Court is at 12.6 and Haleigh and Dom are at about 11. Kelli at 18%. Basically Ellen is the one most likely to keep the ball in play. So I imagine part of it is the position she plays, but a large part is that she will be safe with the ball.

I have noticed in several home matches that Chapman and Bates seem to do a better job of keeping out of system attacks in play than their counterparts on the other teams have. With this team's ability to defend, they really don't need to go for an aggressive shot when it isn't there.
