I like that Kathy is commentating. She's like your favorite aunty. The cool one. The one you can watch volleyball matches with while throwing back some beer.
But really. It was nice hearing her doing it and what she had to say during the match.

The two teams combined for 208 digs in the match, 104 a piece. Is that the highest total in the NCAA this season?

i don't think hawaii trully woke up until they were down match point 23-24.
thankfully they did. the passing steadied out (moving kahakai to libero was a good move, and also using mendoza for olevao in certain rotations). and hawaii's backrow defense started to match, if not, surpassed uci's doggedness on defense.
for uci's part, they were pretty much just out-playing, out-hustling hawaii for most of the first 3 sets. how deflated they must have been when hawaii squeezed out set 3. they weren't quite the same after that. you gotta feel for them. they've had teams on the ropes before this season and just couldn't close the deal. even without bubica, lee and pikrell stepped up. so did victoria (bubica's replacement). and uci definitely had more of a middle presence this time around than when they were in honolulu.
olevao took over at times. so did magill, who was more steady throughout this match. and hawaii was full of energy in that 5th set. i really thought it was over when they were down late in set 3. we don't expect hawaii to put themselves in this kind of a situation against an opponent they should put away more easily ... but at the end of the day, this was a remarkable comeback.
here's hoping they have some more in the tank to take care of fullerton tonight.

You said it perfectly! I also loved hearing kathy's color. She still has so much passion for the game and her voice has the enthusiasm to match. She also doesn't dumb down her comments like everyone who is watching, is watching volleyball for the first time in his life. Although Kanoa and Chris do a good job, I wish she'd move out to hawaii and do uh broadcasts! I like that Kathy is commentating. She's like your favorite aunty. The cool one. The one you can watch volleyball matches with while throwing back some beer. But really. It was nice hearing her doing it and what she had to say during the match.

It was nice hearing her doing it and what she had to say during the match. i could almost hear her speaking that way to her team during timeouts. although less laughing/giggling, and more gnashed teeth and scolding. haha. she seemed to genuinely be rooting for both teams, and pointed out strengths, weaknesses and adjustments that needed to be made on both sides.

Does this mean there will be a change at the libero position from now on?
