Midwest region was wide open… Mckendree making the tournament as an 8 seed after taking Truman to the 5th set the weekend before. Both Ferris and GVSU had great years and quite a few strong teams with GLVC as well. Seemed like the region has improved and has been beating up on each other this year. Probably not quite to the level of the Central… but definitely improving! Definitely agree. And Rockhurst has gotten much better as well.... And yes, not Central for sure... MIAA + Northern Sun = Suicidal

SWMS v. Tampa today for the championship. Pretty remarkable run for Culhane and company.

SWMS v. Tampa today for the championship. Pretty remarkable run for Culhane and company. Indeed! Southwest only loses one senior to graduation this year, too, so things are looking very bright for their future.

They could easily be No. 1 and still not get back to the tournament (like UMD this year). I'd expect teams to be more upset, but they know exactly how it is. I guess they're attitude is "We're going to have to beat these other great region teams sooner or later to win it all, so whether it's in the regional tournament later, same matchup, same task).

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Concordia St. Paul didn't win, but the last team to win that was not named Concordia, wins again.
Congrats to Chris Catanach and Tampa.

Great season for Tampa! Chris Catanach is one of the best and his players performed well all season long. He develops talent very well!

We got shafted on the all-tournament team, one more of our girls or 5 or 6 other girls from the final four should have made the AT Team over the lefty (Hull) from Sonoma State....she single handily gave us the comeback win in our first match with the worst serve-recieve I have ever seen at this level. The SWMS fans were shocked that the coach left her in the game. Thanks Coach!

Wow, the final poll came out, and my UAFS Lady Lions got no respect, ranked 13th, BEHIND both Colorado Mesa and Colorado Mines, both of whom they beat in the past 2 weeks. BYU-Hawaii, which was eliminated in the second round of the tournament, also ranked higher.
And my personal favorite: Nebraska-Kearney, seeded 6th in their region, and losing in the FIRST ROUND of the tournament, is still ranked 5th in the country. I guess there's no point in actually winning the games.

No respect? What did you expect? Did you think just because they made it to the final 4, they should be ranked 4th in the country? They got a lot of respect. They weren't even ranked and not receiving votes and jumped up all the way to 13th, that is moving over 20 spots. Nebraska-Kearney lost to Southwest Minnesota State, who made it to the finals, in 5 in the first round. If UAFS were in either one of those two conferences (Northern Sun, MIAA), they wouldn't even have made it to the NCAA Tournament.

Regionalization in D2 (who makes the elite 8 or FF) is not an indication of the best 25 schools in the country... if Ft Smith wants the respect you think they deserve they will need to skip the Angelo and TX Commerce tournies and upset some ppl early who have higher AVCA/Pablo rankings... THEN they need to not drop matches to GAC schools and run the table in the Heartland. They have a respectable Pablo... and I would put far more weight on that then the AVCA... that being said they have more bad losses than good wins. Its the nature of the beast...

Final polls don't matter. All that matters is the team that won the tournament.

No, I do not think that "...just because they made it to the final 4, they should be ranked 4th in the country?" However, I do think that there is some logic behind the belief that if you beat a team, that is some evidence that you are better than that team. Do you believe it logical to argue that "Well, yeah, you beat Colorado Mesa and you beat Colorado Mines, but that is not evidence that you are better than those teams?" What evidence would you cite that right now those teams are better? Also, arguing that UAFS got respect because "[t}hey weren't even ranked and not receiving votes and jumped up all the way to 13th" is merely to observe that the polls had it wrong going into the tournament. To say that the poll has sort of fixed it somewhat by moving them up a bit is not to support the conclusion that they are now in the appropriate relative place. Just curious: If UAFS had beaten Tampa and then beaten SW Minn, would you not rank them #1? Would you still say that "Tampa is the better team, despite the outcome of the game?" If so, why have a tournament, why play the games? Don't actual results matter?

Results do matter... thats why they still have the Pablo rank they do... do you even understand what I mean by that? (that isnt sarcasm - thats a real question)
