Yeah, I don't know why Haley did not look into possibly scheduling a match or two with UCSB? It certainly would be worthwhile from the fans' point of view though my guess is that they may dislike last minute travel planning.
Btw, what is UCSB doing this weekend? Did it find any place to go to play or get some teams into Santa Barbara? I guess it is never easy with last minute planning.

I think that UCSB committed to playing a different school before USC made their decision not to travel. As soon as a date is decided on, I'll post where and when. Well, it shows that there are more complicated planning going on than what we, as fans, know at face value.

I am kinda relieved that the team has decided not to travel to the east. As I have posted in another thread, the tropical storm will affect Columbia, and more importantly, it will affect flying into and out of that area. Most of the flights into the south goes through Atlanta and Ivan is supposed to head over in that direction. I don't know why Haley and his staff are not planning for alternative matches in So Cal area. Certainly UCSB is an option but my guess is that they may want to give the team a break and let the players catch up with their studies. They did not train last tuesday either. Someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but there aren't any studies for UCSB to catch up on since they are on the Quarter System and their school either has not started yet or just started this week! One reason why Kathy's teams ALWAYS seem to start strong,,,,,,,nothing to conflict with volleyball the first month of the season.

By the way, USC’s flight connected through Dallas…it must have been the dry heat in Texas which dissuaded them!

GauchoDon and Phantom, you 2 are f***ing idiots. USC is not afraid of the likes of S.C., MSU or Notre Dame. They have one of the toughest schedules in the nation. It's been that way for the past 2 or 3 years. Only team w/ a tougher schedule being Stanford. In 2002, they took their #1 ranking to play a very tough UCSB team w/ nothing to lose late in the season, and again they would have played them in the Regional Final had UCSB lived up to its part of the bargain. GauchoDon, you make rescheduling an opponent at the last moment sound like it's as easy a getting a pick-up game of basketball at the YMCA.

I would definitely say that minnesota has the toughest schedule this season.

One reason why Kathy's teams ALWAYS seem to start strong,,,,,,,nothing to conflict with volleyball the first month of the season. Classes begin Thursday. There may be a housing issue though. I'm not sure if any volleyball players are affected by this, but several properties on the bluffs in Isle Vista were condemned by the county a couple weeks ago, which is about the worst possible timing since move-in weekend begins right now. The tenants have been served eviction notices and so far don't have anywhere to live. The landlords are currently in legal battles with the county over the whole thing. Big mess. I know in the past that many of the girls lived on the ocean side of Del Playa. Not sure where they live these days. Hopefully somewhere else.

INTERESTING that the county waited till school started – If they where un-safe – this should of taken place years ago - could have been done back in June, giving students a chance to find housing. – (of course this is not political (anti-development) with the elections close).

They started school on August 23, two weeks before the labor day weekend.

Idiot? probably , but I was truly just hoping that there would be an unintended benefit to the trip cancellation of possibly getting to see another UCSB volleyball game But this from the editted release confirms otherwise:

I can't believe that a U$C/UCSB game couldn't have been aranged.

Do think the problem was with UCSB -- A guess is that U$C had nothing to gain from it and much to loose.
