Why wouldn't they want to add a game to fill the hole? Come-on USC vs UCSB would be a great thing this weekend.

But arranging at the last minute a drive down to LA (or up to SB) is a lot eassier to do than flying out to Hawaii.
I wonder what the mindset is behind SC's coaches/admin to not consider playing the Gauchos. They must be aware of UCSB's similar situation.
Come on SC, sack up!

The women of Troy aren't used to 2 losses in the same week. Perhaps its cowardice.

I am kinda relieved that the team has decided not to travel to the east. As I have posted in another thread, the tropical storm will affect Columbia, and more importantly, it will affect flying into and out of that area. Most of the flights into the south goes through Atlanta and Ivan is supposed to head over in that direction.
I don't know why Haley and his staff are not planning for alternative matches in So Cal area. Certainly UCSB is an option but my guess is that they may want to give the team a break and let the players catch up with their studies. They did not train last tuesday either.

The women of Troy aren't used to 2 losses in the same week. Perhaps its cowardice. The team has never backed down from challenges and they have consistently scheduled tough non-conference matches. My guess is that there will be too much last minute travel planning to be made, and they may prefer to let the players hunker down in their dorms catching up on their studies instead.

I would think that it's not that easy to simply schedule a new opponent to play w/in 2 days. If they had considered the trip to S.C. would not happen a week prior, then they could have made back up plans. But I think when you factor in hotel accomodations, booking flights to handle 20 people or so, scheduling gym practice, finding game officials and other required staff, and then actually renting out the gym (that might have other sporting events), it becomes quite complicated. It's not like going for a pick-up game at the YMCA. There's a lot of regulations.

I'm sure Hawaii is tougher to schedule at the last minute than a drive to LA, but one would think it would be worth the effort (would make nice redemption for having to back out of the tournament and quiet just anyone from saying either team was too afraid to schedule opposition)
Also would be a great game.
Hawaii, would be nice, but from my perspective LA would be nicer, since I'm not gonna try to buy a ticket to hawaii on no notice, but would drive to LA if they decided they were playing tomorrow night or Saturday or Sunday.

That's why if I'm elected president, I will use the tax cut money to build a carbon nanotube suspension bridge from Hawaii and LA or San Francisco or both if feasible. I will also declare volleyball a national sport and will make passing a curriculum of "No child Left Behind". Because a dig is a terrible thing to waste

I can't believe they wouldn't want to put together a UCSB/USC "makeup" match.

I need to learn/remember some anti-Gaucho cheers... maybe I can teach them to the Manoa Maniacs?
It would make more sense for UCSB to play USC.

(would make nice redemption for having to back out of the tournament and quiet just anyone from saying either team was too afraid to schedule opposition) I really don't think they are concerned with that. I think that's just a bunch of poppycock from the VolleyTalk sewing circle.
