We will see when they play Texas how good they are outside of the SEC. Lost to Texas and Florida State early in year. By running a three person rotation on the outside they will need which two they go with the have outstanding matches against high quality teams. That IMO means Mallette and Snyder, but none of the three with Recek put up great numbers back to back matches which is what they will need by at least the third round depending upon the draw. also I don't think you can predict how far this team will go in the NCAAs without knowing the draw at all. r u serious? The thread says "How good is Florida" not "will Florida beat Texas". I don't think they come into Gregory and win, but even with a loss I think Florida is a 7-12 team if their OHs play well. I think Texas is a top 4 team if their passing and setting are good and should get tested by Florida
Florida can pose some challenges for middle dominant teams, and with their main hitter being a RS it makes their opponents OH1 work extra hard on blocking. They have the talent to get to elite 8 with right draw.

Of course it is all about the draw as far as which teams have the best chance at making the Final Four. Florida definitely has the talent to be in contention for a Final Four spot.

I think this is the best UF squad since 2003, slightly ahead of the most recent elite 8 team when Murphy was a senior. Thus, I think they are a legit top-8 team that may sneak into another FF.
I think it would take favorable matchups to get there (ie - I'd prefer a Stanford elite 8 matchup vs Texas or PSU). We don't do well when the opposition is more physical than us and there are just a few teams more physical this year.

I know this thread is about Florida but I'm curious about Florida State, specifically, the FSU fans. (I didn't want to create a new thread.) Do the FSU fans do the tomahawk chop at volleyball matches?

If I am a Florida fan I would much rather play a Texas or PSU elite 8 matchup than a Stanford, Wash., or Wisconsin matchup.
Texas and PSU are more physical, but both have tendencies to have off matches. Texas will make some unforced errors and blow a match or let teams hang around while PSU may have become more consistent over the course of the season they still are young. If they are both on they beat Florida, but Texas and PSU has a greater chance of being off than Stanford, Wash., or Wis..
Stanford, Wash., and Wis. are all well oiled machines that play great floor defense and have good offensive distribution. Look what Wis. did to Texas last year in tourney when Texas had an off night, and they could not recover.

Nah, we struggle to over power the big blocks. We are better when we can go over a block and I'll take my chances that even world class back rows will struggle to dig Mallette, Alhassan, and Holston without a strong touch from the block.

OK, I pull for SEC and want Florida to do well because it is good for the conference, but you would rather match up with Inky (6'3") and Lutz (6'8") and their pin hitters that are all 6'1" or 6'2"? Stanford and Washington are #1 and #2 in hitting %, Opp. hitting % and blocks/set in the PAC and both more per set than PSU. Not arguing, just clarifying because you know Florida vball better than I.

Dunno, haven't read into them or seen them once. I don't have any access to Pac12 network or anything. I think people are taking my example too literally. Mostly, my point is that for UF to get through to the final 4, it will take some help from others (upsets/favorable bracket/etc). I don't think we are consistently good enough to beat every top team head to head. Thus, I voted us as a regional final team in the above poll. Yall are basically confirming why I wouldn't pencil them into the FF.

Respectful until they lose a regional NCAA match to Florida and blame their breakdown on Mary. If you remember, they had lots of petty and spiteful things to say about Florida then.

It depends on the bracket. Sweet 16 for sure, possibly Elite 8.
