Not "and." "Or." They don't need Busse AND Harms. They need one player playing near that level.
And I don't think they need a transfer. They need Wilhite to perform near that level -- or, if they keep running a 6-2, they need a combination of Wilhite and someone else to perform near that level.
IN ADDITION to improved ball control. Is that a lot? Hell, yes. But the jump from 9-11 to contention is a hell of a jump.

All American transfers are rare and when they do come up there is a ton of competition. With Minnesota's struggles the last few years they may night be in contention for these players like they once were. Transfers are always quite risky and something I don't feel ANY program should rely on.

This group of underclassmen had alot of success in club and high school and I'm sure this year was just as frustrating for them too! I am confident THEY will also work to improve in the off-season. The trip to compete in Japan couldn't have actually come at a better time.

Yes hopefully the team matures in the off-season and is more competitive in 2015. They will be competing in Japan in March with SSS on the roster so hopefully that will give them some more time to work things out. I'm not sold on Goehner being the answer as OH - hopefully MN can get a transfer to add more power in the hitting department. I am not quite sold on Goehner as an OH either, but I have to admire her grit in that position. She can be effective and smart when dealing with tricky blockers, but I just don't think she has had enough experience on the court yet to be a terminating OH at this level. At best, I see her being about Hailey Cowles-good (which is still pretty good), but with some obvious height limitations. I am confident that she will improve vastly where she needs to, and can, improve. Same goes for Wilhite. We saw flashes of brilliance from her this year but there is still a lack of experience or confidence or something. They will only get better!

It's nice that the players have experience together, but the B1G isn't Lights 2.0. I think there's a benefit to coming to college and playing with people who haven't all been coached by the same people who coached you. Exposure to different styles and different approaches to incorporate makes you a stronger player.

My point was that this group of girls is not used to losing so you would have to believe they will work on each of their own games in the off season in order to help the team succeed moving forward. This became a MN 2015 thread so just like to say congrats to Ohio St - I think they were the surprise team of the B1G!

The trip to compete in Japan couldn't have actually come at a better time. Hope springs eternal, but I can't help noting that there were several players who did not seem to progress from last year (as one would have expected) or since and over the course of this season. Why, I don't know, but it tempers one's optimism. What does make me hopeful somewhat is the possibility that SSS will live up to her billing. If so, Minn will still need a star pin hitter--and I for one would welcome a transfer or even, and this is a big gulp for me, an international player who can fill that role. But at least it will be closer to being solid in all respects. One thing I wish the players would practice and get better at is serving. You can see what a difference aggressive serving makes for PSU, Washington, Wisconsin, and others (like Minn in 2012 when Santana, Harms, and Dixon were all threats at the line). Of course, if it were easy, everyone would do it.

Exposure to different styles and different approaches to incorporate makes you a stronger player. Minn recruits from NL because thats where the top players who want to play for Minn come from. In any case, the same club thing worked out fine for Minn in the recent past. And I note that Washington has 3 or 4 players (Scambrey, Jones, Tanner and I think someone else) from the same California club, the one that Tanner's father used to run. It's my impression, and I admit that I'm no student of Washington's team, that Washington's pipeline to California players seems to run mostly through that one club.

I still think the gophers could make the tournament, if you consider that they have been playing better at this moment. yes it is not usual to see them lose to Ohio State but right now OSU is ranked. in their last two matches they swept a ranked team and went to 5 sets with another ranked team. the B1G has 5 teams in nationally ranked, I think if they beat Indiana they still have a chance of squeezing in.
