I wish it were just one thing. I'd almost want the question rephrased: What one thing was really strong in 2014? Blocking, I guess. I think the team can be much better in 2015, but they are going to have to improve in a lot of areas. Terminating especially.

Time to ruffle some feathers...How about Coaching? Sorry, Not a Hugh fan...RR +1 one thing i feel is that from his first season here he has shown that he can't manage very well when the team gets behind in a big match; which happens to about every team in big matches. I see him looking to get out if the team doesn't turn it around this year. He already has 27 losses on his Collegiate coaching record. I'm not sure what people see that they did to say that they were playing their best at the end of the season, when perhaps all they needed to do was beat OSU to get that last bid??? Seems to me they played their best from the Iowa St match through to the Ohio State opener and into the Penn State match, the matches when they recorded their only top 40 wins.

Does anyone know of a good place to find full video of 2014 Gopher matches? I know that user TCMullet on YouTube has quite the good selection of volleyball video from 2013 and older, but not much for '14 yet.

(Back to 2015) I think the team and the coaches are very aware of what they need to work on to improve for this coming spring and fall. With that said, I will admit that the coaching staff has made some really poor coaching decisions and not a lot of really great ones.
For example: The dark period of 2014 when we had our setterless rotations to supposedly help with blocking. And then we used up our substitutions due to this brilliant idea, leaving a (realistically) 5-7 defensive specialist (Dalianliz) in the front row. This was obviously an oversight on the coaches' part, but it makes me wonder if sometimes Hugh is trying a bit TOO hard at this level to look good.
Our inability this past year to come back from behind and/or close out sets was also frustrating. Probably a combination of coaching lapses and just mental errors by the players.
With that said, I still have faith that our players are indeed good players and will improve, and I feel the same about our coaching staff. Hugh honestly had it pretty easy with Palmer, Wittman, and Dixon during his first couple years here. He's still adjusting to and learning how to handle adversity in the college game, which is a much different animal than any Olympic match.

With only one FR really getting playing time this season, will Hugh change things up and look to them? With the Tapps and Santana, will FR continue to sit and Hugh look towards 2015 class? Will be interesting. Something has to change

I'm still not convinced Paige isn't the better choice for the right, with Hannah back in the middle. If Paige can improve as much as she did from 2013 to 2014, especially in terms of hitting power, she'd be a terrific opposite. I think this is a smart idea, and potentially one that could make a material difference for Minnesota next year. Paige is a terminator, who has the ability to rack up the kills that Minnesota so desperately needs. Have Lohman take Paige's place as the other middle blocker with Hannah.

They are all too good to see much bench time.

Will be interesting. Something has to change I think we all have a good idea of who the starting setter will be. With that said, I think the upperclassmen still will see more extended playing time or starts at other positions, particularly Santana and the Tapps. I do think it will be interesting to see how the remaining outsides, particularly Alugbue, Wilhite, and Goehner will be utilized.

I think she'll be great. Can't wait to see her coaching style and how it contrasts with Hugh's.

Gopher Volleyball head coach Hugh McCutcheon has announced that outside hitter Margaret Eggert and setter Samantha Seliger Swenson have enrolled in classes and will join the Gopher program for the 2015 spring semester. Eggert is a transfer from Ole Miss. (I assume a walk-on.) Was hoping Alugbue would be here for spring to join the trip to Japan. www.gophersports.com/sports/w-volley/mtt/margaret_eggert_946224.html
