No wonder the announcement took so long. They spent days writing it.

No wonder the announcement took so long. They spent days writing it. Both schools dropped the ball on PR 101. I'm guessing there was some reason or hangup or legal matter we'll never know about, but you couldn't do a much worse job of making a splash with your new big hire. Releasing the information on a Saturday morning for what, for many, is a 3-day weekend. This is what politicians do when they want to release unfavorable information...it's called the Friday afternoon news-dump. You release the information late in the day Friday or early Saturday....especially on 3-day weekends. It's guaranteed to get you the least amount of coverage.

And yet this is supposed to be a fabulous job to have. First Task Is To Train the pr Department.
As for boof, he writes like that all the time.

Happy for everyone involved in the ND program. They're getting a great coach who will recruit top talent and raise the level of play. Plus, all coaches should be thrilled that coach pay is heading up!

Whoa, whoa. Folks are talking about Notre Dame as if it were Northeast Central Nowhere State College or something. Mac is clearly being brought in to build a top program, and I see no reason he won't succeed. I'm not one of his fans, but I will acknowledge that he finds great players, develops talent, and coaches a great match. And I agree with the poster who pointed out that ND recruits liberally in California.

Thanks for the link, just by watching it; I am excited for JMac... and ND. Ha. Let's see what he can do!

They may be a big name school but have never been top program in this sport

They said he was "brought in to BUILD a top program".

ND is not NOT the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople (where athletics aren't that strong, but the music progam is stellar). However, their PR department is certainly acting like that's where they think they work, and they are treating VB like a bastard child, not worthy of comment. I can see UDub wanting to wait until this was really happening, taking time to tell players and recruits, making sure no assistants would bail, etc., before announcing. But what the heck did ND have to wait for? You lured a decorated coach from a top-10 program to take over your bottom-of-the-conference team. That is something to crow about.

When you combine this with the unnecessarily frank announcement of the failings of the previous coach, this was a very, very poor job by the ND SID staff. And I happen to like ND overall and have strong ties there through Mrs. nyline.
