These arguments can go on forever. Yes...Kriskova had great numbers overall, but, yes, in a inferior league. She did not have a spectacular attack percentage and she didn't do that well against the big teams when she faced em, like UW (0.140) or Kentucky (0.000 with 17 errors). Maybe that's to be expected given how VCU ran their offense -- it looks like she she took an ungodly fraction of her team's attacks. I'm guessing the other teams knew exactly where the Rams were going almost all of the time. So, we know she is probably not the second coming of Karsta Lowe, but in the badger offense she will be part of a balanced attack with Carlini setting. That will free her up to be a lot more efficient, although she will get a lot fewer kills. All in all I think it's a wash. In the end, she may have a hard time replicating Court's numbers at RS, but I fully expect her to match or surpass her previous efficiency stats, even playing in the B1G. The thing that gives me confidence is that Sheffield saw her play up close against his team in 2013, and afterward decided to take her in without hesitation. I think that tells you something about what he thinks of her. UW website still has her listed as an OH on the roster. Does that mean anything at this stage? Don't you think with a balanced attack, other go-to hitters and an amazing setter her numbers could likely approach Court's? This is a really good point. Kriskova had so many KPS, especially as a sophomore, because she was the center of the VCU offense. I think her number of attempts will go down because Lauren is so good at spreading the offense around. Though she will just feed a particular player if the opponent doesn't have an answer for her, a hallmark of the LC Balanced Offense (TM) is multiple players in double-digit kills. That said, I do think Romo's efficiency will go up because LC is good at getting her hitters one-on-ones, so she'll be able to beat the block. I think this year, as a RS JR, Romo will be better than Court was as a junior, but I'm not sure whether she'll be able to be a Karsta type player just because she's sharing the court with so many studs and a setter who likes to distribute the ball.

Don't you think with a balanced attack, other go-to hitters and an amazing setter her numbers could likely approach Court's? Well actually, no, I don't think anybody thinks this. Courtney's senior year numbers were incredible and she should have been a first team AA player - she was the best hitter, the best passer and ran the secondary offense, which allowed Carlini more freedom on defense. Morey 15 has to be better than Morey 14 because on top of replicating her Big 10 DPOY performance, she is taking responsibility for the secondary offense, and may need to pass even more. They are planning on Bates 15 being better than Bates 14, Gillis being better than Chapman's .226%, they would gladly take the same hitting % from their stable of middles as they had last year and might hope for a few extra blocks, and hopefully that offsets what they are going to lose on the RS. And even then they still have to replace important personalities in Thomas, Morales, Kvas, and Fricano who made this team what it was the last two years.

What you guys should do is wander over to Camp Randall and watch the team play between sessions, get a sneak peek on how everyone looks.

She could also not be a Karsta-type player because she's not a Karsta-type player. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE. To be clear, my Karsta reference was a rhetorical flourish to make a point. We're not expecting Kriskova to be superhuman. She just has to replace Court's production.

Yes, Court was amazing her senior year. I think it's a stretch to ask Kriskova to attain AA numbers. Kriskova is a purer hitter though, it's true, so there's that. It is possible she puts up better numbers, which is why I used the conditional. We would be really ecstatic with that. I agree with Rainbow that Kriskova will likely surpass Court's junior year numbers.

Don't disagree, however I was really referring to offensive numbers. I think her efficiency / offense numbers could be as good as a junior as Court's as a senior IF her knee is back to or close to normal. Others will disagree, but there you go. .330% with Carlini is doable, particularly if you're 6'3" with a really heavy arm, which she has. Likely? No. Possible? Yes. Wishful thinking? Maybe.

I tend to think of the numbers game a little differently. Morey 15 doesn't have to be better so much as Morey/MacDonald 15 have to be as good as Morey/Morales 2014. Deme did great adapting to being DS, but the fact is that she was not a natural defender or passer, and MacDonald is. While MacDonald is a freshman, it is possible that there is not much of a drop off there. They do have to pick up the secondary offense, that is true. We probably lose something there, but that is fractional loss for a few points a set, so I'm not sure how important it is. Also, were not so much looking for Bates 15 to be better than Bates 14, but rather that Bates/Gillis/Duello be as good as Bates/Chapman/Jules were. I think that is also not that unrealistic. Will Williams/Nelson/Blake be better than Thompson/Nelson? Williams has amazing upside, but I think it may take a bit before Tionna gets to Thompson's level, and Nelson will have to be better to make up for that development period. Blake is the wild card.

Not unrealistic at all. Based on her performance in Europe this summer Bates 15 will be better than Bates 14, and Gillis can certainly exceed the offensive numbers put up by Chapman/Morales as an outside. I didn't mean to suggest that it was impossible... I just meant that I don't think they are doing math for this season based on getting Courtney like production from anybody on the RS this year. They have other places they can and will compensate.

Things I'm interested in: - What's going to happen in 2015.
- Which of our 2015s, if any, is a "dark horse" who will step up and surprise everyone.
- How our 2016s and 2017s are doing in prep/club.
- What the 2018 landscape looks like.
Things I'm pretty sure of: - Haggerty is a top 2016 pin hitter. I don't care if she's ranked above or below the top 2016 middles and setters. I care that she's a top OH.
- ME Dodge is a baller, and she's gonna challenge MacDonald like heck to replace Morey.
Conversations that are kinda ridiculous: - Who thought what about Bates/Kriskova/Morales in 2014.
- Trying to predict a 2016 lineup when we haven't even started the 2015 season yet.
- Which of our 2015s is going to transfer.
This last one particularly irks me. Let's be real. We're deep in pin hitters over the next few years. Some kids are content to contribute behind the scenes, and other kids really feel like they need to be playing in matches in order to be satisfied. Each of our hitters likely falls at a different place on that spectrum, but I don't know who falls where, and neither does anyone beyond their family, coaches, and close friends. Heck, the players themselves might not ever know where they fall. So I will not be surprised if one of our 2015s decides to transfer in order to get more playing time. That's just where NCAA volleyball is these days. But I think it does these kids a huge disservice to start talking about that in the context of specific players who haven't played a single point of college ball. You are spot on regarding Dodge. She is a really good physical libero. As a former 5'11" OH, she moves really well and reads the hitters exceptionally. My prediction is that she will be the next great Badger libero.

Hey...I thought any reference to injures was verboten! I was referring to her rehab, not potential future injuries. Knock on wood. Also, I was feeling rhyme-y. :-P
