Not sure how big an upset it was based on their rqankings. The 2 and 3 matches were very close and when the two schools meet again in early April, the odds are good that the competition will be close again. However, it is obvious that UCLA is much improved over last year. Also, one of LMU's 5s resigned from the team on Monday to pursue other school activities which did not help matters, but probably would not have changed the outcome.
LMU beats Pacific 4-1.
LMU righted the ship an hour later with their 1-4s beating Pacific. Only the #2 match went to three sets.

They're obviously not going to win the championship but it's nice to see them be competitive. UCLA is also without one of their #1 players from last year (Ngauamo). She is out for the season.

UCLA is definitely trending up. They will be better in 2016 with Muno, the McNamara's, and Izzy Carey to go along with players like Schmitt, Weaver, Ngauamo (although she was frankly underwhelming last season in relation to her rep). They'll be really good the following year when Van Winden comes in. A Muno/Van Winden pairing is an immediate national championship threat. I think the beach future for UCLA is pretty bright.

I think Metzger has another 4 players for 2016-2017 already and one committed for 2017-2018. I'm not sure where he's gonna put them all.
Dropped by Dockweiler today and caught the dual... they ran 3 simultaneously so I saw a little bit of everyone but not a full match for anyone. UCLA is not very physical but has good ball skills up and down the lineup now. They'll probably make quick work of a lot of those teams still using inexperienced indoor players but be a tier below the national championship contenders.

Well, the word is that Sealy wants to move to a full-time sand group, e.g. no crossover players with one or at most two exceptions any given season for elite players who can offer big contributions to both teams (like, say, Van Winden). If that's the case, Steino is going to need all those sand commits. And last I heard, UCLA is in strong contention for two exceptional 2017 beach players who have yet to commit.

Hawaii and shorter, yet smarter, GG and Martin would be imo a contender also. I'd love to see the defense that team would need to play as GG is being redshirted this season to be a RS-Fr next season. 5.8s on an NCAA WSVB team. hmm. they'd have to work hard and be a complete inspiration.
btw, the dude from San Fran has been named an assistant coach. He's a secular Jewish individual and is on this site as well. He does love domestic law.

Nothing from CAL POLY,...officially. Don't know what it would take from a logistic stand point to get the matches between Arizona v. CAL POLY streamed. Coming from the sandy beaches of Pismo Beach, CA. on Saturday & Sunday. A series of long extension cords for starters. GoPOLY!!!

I can't recall ever seeing Shebby play in any juniors beach events, but she's certainly got the athleticism for it. Don't know anything about Nady other than she's a middle - I think?

Will be interesting - neither is a primary passer indoors. I just assumed that Shebby had a beach background because of her club. Nady is a middle who I think would do very will on the sand with some training. Good athleticism, decent ballhandling, and even though she's primarily a slide attacker she takes good-looking swings on 4s (cuz, Oregon offense).

Florida State defeats Loyola Marymount 3-2.
FSU was up 3-0 but LMU's top two pairs fought for wins. The No.1 pairs math was a nice one to watch. Sponcil/Metter defeated Pardon/Wickstrom in a tight three setter 20-22, 21-19, 17-15

The stream stopped during the 4's/5's/exhibition matches of USC vs FSU. No stream planned for the rest of the tournament, I guess. It was nice coverage of FSU-LMU on court 1.

Stream is back up. No.1 pair for FSU had to forfeit due to medical reasons. Not sure what happen but it was with Pardon I believe. They are playing an exhibition with Pavels replacing her.
