Actually, she red-shirted at UCLA in 2013, so she has already used her red-shirt year. She still has 3 years eligibility remaining.

You know, I'm pretty sure the REAL "most underrated player" is someone none of us have ever heard of. That's, you know, part of what being "underrated" actually means.

And "underated" would not be on the national champion's roster.
I was once underated when I was younger then became overrated as I got older. Now I'm back to being underated in my latest venture.

Dom and Lacey were fun to watch in the tournament as they were digging almost everything. So glad for them.

Is Fuller the redhead? Libero and the redhead impressed me. yes fuller was the red head and their top ds. Gonzalez was Libero. Either prob could have been Libero though. Fuller prob has a better more consistant serve out of the two I don't think this is necessarily true. I don't recall Lacy ever being a receiver which leads me to believe that is wasn't her strongest suit. K. Pierce would receive sometimes and was pretty solid. But Lacy played some lights out defense.

Underrated means you don't even get named to the AVCA All-American Honorable mentions, yet Taylor Morey of Wisconsin gets 2nd team AllAmerican and the Big Ten honors, even though you annihilated her statistically in head to head competition (21-9 digs in first match, and 24-17 digs in the rematch in the regional finals).

Let's just agree that Dom was the "FAKE" most underrated player and leave at that.

I'm sure Dom is happy with her "Consolation Prizes."

At least she will get another championship ring for her hard work "the grind". Love her personality. I'm giving Dom a "Wonder Woman" award myself.

You know, I'm pretty sure the REAL "most underrated player" is someone none of us have ever heard of. That's, you know, part of what being "underrated" actually means. To paraphrase Mario Van Peebles, there are four stages of a volleyball player's life: Stage 1: Dom who? Stage 2: Get me Dom Gonzalez! Stage 3: Get me a young Dom Gonzalez! Stage 4: Dom who?

The funniest thing about this thread is the same people who want to recognize Fuller and Gonzalez for their defensive skill and being special in the backrow are some of the same ones who were questioning why Burgess got first team AA. Defense like in most sports always goes overlooked. We didn't see a single libero on the first team this year.
I will say that Gonzalez is the classic case of being surrounded by so much talent its hard to recognize her. Two potential NFOY candidates in Frantti and Washington and one who won the award. The NPOY in Hancock and MOP of the tourney in Courtney also another first team AA in Grant.
Gonzalez I think is often overlooked because she is in a conference with lots of great liberos this year. Morey, Donnely, Wong-Orantes, Moster. Its hard to say you are the best when you are competing with names like those. I don't think Gonzalez is so much better than any of those mentioned if anything she is equal or not greater than some. With that said Gonzalez had an amazing tournament. Watching her court position and her lateral movement when getting digs was really quite special and she was great on serve receive. I think she is underrated in the sense that when I think great liberos in the country she isn't the first name that comes to mind but she should be mentioned with some.

This reminds me of Roberta Holehouse of Penn St. in 2008. Great libero, but was over shadowed by literally everyone else on the floor (6 All Americans; 4 1st team and 2 2nd team). She's my favorite libero hands down.

Great. Thanks. One of the things I like about Dom is her workman like attitude. Does what it takes to do the job. Nothing fancy, no embellishments. Sorry to see her move on.

I think they said in the semifinal analysis at the AVCA convention that every ball that Gonzalez dug against Stanford was able to be hand-set by Hancock. That's incredible.
