I... actually agree with this. I think conference pride is dumb. It makes no difference. You can still hate me... it's ok... come hug it out

Conference Pride is only convenient when you are in a gang fight against another Conference! Outside of that I enjoy it when a rival school gets their A$$ kicked regularly in all sports.

Mister "I couldn't blink even if you blew straight into my cornea" tweeted this after the match: Mike Wolf (@miketwolf) - A #B1GVolleyball team has now won the NCAA title in 7 of the last 9 years. #BestVBConference What a ridiculous statement.... Penn State has won 6 and Nebraska won one in 2006 as a member of the B12. My Buckeyes haven't done JACK SQUAT to contribute to that except get whipped by the lions 2 (and one year 3). Most of the rest of the B1G hasn't done anything either. Nebraska hasn't made it back to the championship match since 2006. Illinois went to get whacked by UCLA. Exception is Wisconsin last year, where the B1G was guaranteed a championship. What pisses me off about that statement is that it somehow is supposed to make ME feel better about losing. "Oh look, your rival who kicked the sh*t out of you won ANOTHER championship, don't you feel better about yourself?" NO. I hate it that they won again and I have to listen to more of their incessant chest-beating. It's a condescending view of sports. "Well I suck, but at least the teams that beat me don't suck." We complain about it ad-nauseum in college football with the SEC, but at least it is more than one team keeping the conference on the top. Without PSU, the B1G has NEVER won the national championship and has only had a CHANCE to 4 times (a resounding 4-12 in sets in those matches). The chest-thumping is ridiculous and any B1G school fan not wearing white and blue should be ashamed of themselves if they are. Now Mr. "I have something shoved so far up my butt it's coming out my mouth" is just a conference shill paid to prop up the conference, but it still made me what to kick a baby seal. /end rant I hate Penn State more than I hate the pilot light going out during a shower. While I see that you have posted a total of 2,799 times, I don't recall ever having read your posts before and I suspect it's because I usually read Stanford related posts and you don't post there often. Would you consider widening your post range? Even if it's negative towards Stanford, I want to read it because you're hilarious and humor is often the much needed ingredient missing from a sport that we often forget is comprised of a bunch of teens and early 20-something college students. I was thinking earlier this evening about the oddity of people appearing to get genuinely angry and very defensive of "their" conference. I don't understand it either. Yes, I get that if you can attempt to assert that "your" conference is better than it somehow may indicate that your team is better if you lose within the supposedly best conference but even that is a weak argument. Considering the conference is comprised of teams that cause each one of us the most heartache for about 80% of the season (I'm not good at math), I don't understand why people then come out of the woodwork to defend the same teams they curse throughout the regular season. This largely teenage playing sport is often taken very, very seriously by largely a 40 and up crowd. It's an interesting dynamic.

I know there are people on both sides of this issue. The only time in my opinion that it makes sense to root for another team in your conference is, if as in football, a team going to a more prestigious bowl helps add revenue to your own school. Otherwise no I think it's good when an OOC school beats your own. Some might call that sour grapes. So be it.

I don't hate Penn State. I've always admired the program and Russ especially. But I hate that they dominate the B1G and I'm tired of all the titles. They are the new Stanford. Who roots for the overdog? Team fans, sure. But it doesn't make us bad people to want someone else to win the B1G and the NC. Actually, I can't root for PSU, Stanford or Texas. Until the top recruits start choosing other schools more often, they are all overdogs. Drake and Justin Beiber... they are PSU volleyball fans You're killing me with your humor and it's much needed after tonight's match.

Conference pride is brilliant! It affords you a unique and unparalleled opportunity gloat and rile up other fans #PUREWIN
(No that wasn't me tweeting; and yes, regarding conference pride, I do draw a line somewhere, albeit very crookedly where it serves my purposes).
But seriously, when posters don't care about this stuff and just stick to 'their' team. That detracts from the vb fandom experience. And for 99% of teams out there NOT named PSU, there is nothing to celebrate, everrrr. So, the PAC fans can cheer on teams who went further, as can the BIG fans (and other conferences, i guess).
SuperSpike takeaway for today: 1. Only following/supporting your team, with blinders on like the guy above, makes things boooring. 2. I loooove mocking the PAC, and actually enjoy it when they do it back (I'm a bad person, I know) 3. All you diehard fans for one team who don't show up at a regional in your back yard because you're too busy crying about 'YOUR'' (no it's not urs) team losing... Rediculous, and worthy of much ridicule. Likewise for the HUGE boys/girls on here who don't watch the FF/ship because 'their' team is out. Shame on you! 4. Rampage I am revoking your VB Fan card because you passed up big matches to 'study'. #FAIL 5. Lastly, I hate PSU almost as much as the next guy, but will I take credit for their achievements as if I contributed personally? Hell yeah! Especially if talking to a PAC fan!

There's a big difference between following the teams in your conference (I watch nearly every match aired on the Pac-12 and Big 10 networks regardless of who is playing) and nearly losing your %*$# in a debate on VT over which conference is better. Personally, I enjoy watching VB and the idea of getting genuinely angry about someone else's assertion that "their" conference is superior is dumbfounding.

No anger here nor losing my s***, as far as I know.
I am with you on the 'be a volleyball fan first' concept, but even if you're VB obsessed like me, you can admit that there is something added to the strait volleyball when you have conference rivalry and debate and yes, even passionate debate.
How many posters on VT segregate themselves in one thread all year? Like the TX, Stanford, Wisconsin, PSU, Washington, Illinois... Or whatever team jake likes so much. Point is, that's boring to hole up in 'your' thread, and to be politically correct/polite, blah blah.

My favorite teams to watch have a great deal to do with the coaches, oddly enough. Yes, I am always happy to get to watch a Karsta Lowe type player but there are certain coaches who seem to be particularly strategic and/or risk takers, year in and year out. Players change and I most enjoy watching the decisions of coaches as their players graduate and freshman enter the scene. The coaches that don't change with an ever-evolving game and stick with the same starters all season, come hell or high water tend to bore me. Some of the most interesting matches can come from a bottom team in a conference (any conference) because coaches are forced to get creative, look down their bench and roll the dice. When fans get stuck on their conference they can potentially miss a lot of really good volleyball. Some of my favorite coaches/teams to watch have derailed my favorite team either at conference title or tournament time. If I had to list my top five favorite teams to watch only two (including "my" team) would be from the conference I most closely follow. It doesn't mean I am rooting for them but I do enjoy a particularly skilled coach and the teams he or she produces each season. I think some people don't decipher between being a fan and enjoying watching a team. I can desperately want a team to lose but still really enjoy watching their play.

Oh, and yes, I love a good in-conference rivalry match but I don't get vested in the whole, my conference is better than your clearly overrated conference debates.
