Spring match up this Friday @ UF
Florida State vs. Florida
Granted it's a spring scrimmage but always a very good rival
Florida returns hitters, middles and setter-- but will be without their back row of Unroe, Pole and Monsorez (sp?) Not sure if libero replacement is there this spring training with team
Florida State returns all their hitters middles and one setter.. will be without their libero (Mosher)and starting setter (Wickstrom) -although Mosher will be their as volunteer assistant coach..

Hadn’t seen any news of an incoming L this year to UF.

And FSU picks up Christina Ambrose a product of Florida volleyball who played for highly-ranked OVA. She red-shirted at Purdue last season. But her abilities and height (6'3") will be a plus at Florida State this season.

I don't see Ambrose beating out Walch or Horton on the outside this season...but could see her at right side this fall along with Kubura.. then moving to Oh next season after Walch graduates

The only libero I am aware of heading to UF--but not till 2016 is the libero from KIVA --Allie Gregory My bet would be that senior DS, O'Rourke will probably be libero in 2015 with Rodgers (Redshirt Freshman) and Dubiel as DS's completing the 3 back row players for 2015? Again, I have no inside knowledge of Gator volleyball-- just going off what I see on website and Rich Kern

I did attend scrimmage yesterday. Took place in Practice gym, Lemerand..Not very may Florida fans there really.. 5 sets played- 4 to 25 and 1 set to 15.. Florida won sets 1,2,3 and FSU won sets 4,5
Scores (from memory so may be off a point or 2) Set 1 UF 25-23 Set 2 UF 25-22 Set 3 UF 25-18 Set 4 FSU 25-20 Set 5 FSU 15-11
Keep in mind it was a spring scrimmage so all players played.looked like both teams started with starting line up as best they could noting that FSU does not have their 2nd setter there yet till summer.
Observations on FSU: Luke ran a 5-1 for FSU. starting hitters Walch and Horton looked good on defense and hitting..Middles, Wright and Burrington got lots of practice. I thought Ambrose may play right side but she looked like OH hitter #3 along with Hauer as OH #4. Never played right side at all.. which leads me to believe she may not see much court time this fall and because Walch played back row for Ambrose when she was not hitting.. which was sets..2,4 Kubura-Vaughn played right..Mara Green back in the line up after medical redshirt last year. She was playing middle and looked like she is still trying to her hops back. Taking over at libero was Woie...played libero all 5 sets.. she will be fine and had good digging..
Observations on Florida: Mary Wise was not there. They too were shifting many hitters and middles around .. O'Rourke played libero all 5 sets.. with both DS's getting in back row for Recek and Mallete. Interesting they had Joseph hitting OH in some sets. Didn't look too bad actually. Diagastio set sets 1,2,3 and Dettering(sp?) took over set midway through set 3 and then all of set 4 and 5. Always looking good was Holston on right side...did not see much from Alhassan..no hard hitting but good jumping.. maybe having trouble connecting on timing with setters? Other middle Antwi.. not much...
Must keep this all in perspective..it was spring...both coaches were shifting around players and trying different things.. Lots of service errors into net or way long from Florida as they continue to practice those top spin jump serves.
Anyone else care to post observations.. please do.

Thanks for the observation, the biggest thing I wanted to see was Dagostino improve on is setting Rhamat high enough. Both setters really. I was thinking everything else would even out too but that will be critical for long term success so Rhamat can be utilized fully. hopefully it will in the fall.
