Cities have to bid on the event. They have to want it, they have to have the facilities, and they have to meet the requirements of the NCAA proposal (including the AVCA and PAVO) Some cities might sound like a good idea, but they have no interest. Doesn't the NCAA avoid Las Vegas for all sports? The Pac-12 did somehow get their conference basketball championship there. Add Mountain West mbb conference cc.

OKC is not that bad you guys, you just don't know where to go. It would be nice to have it in bigger/unique cities though. Seattle was great last year. How about LA, Portland, Dallas, Las Vegas, NYC, Miami, etc? If it's a city where you have to "know where to go", it should not be hosting a convention/Final Four. "You guys, I'm serious, Fargo isn't THAT bad. You've just got to know where to go." I thought Bricktown and surrounding area was fine, just underprepared.

City of Brotherly and Sisterly Love of Volleyball! (that slogan hasn't been formally adopted, but we're close).

Austin would be fantastic in December, but it just makes the path that much easier for "fattended" Texas, who will have feasted on cupcakes since September.

My only comment on OKC is that I ran into more than one person or player that had to take a cab to get to a Walgreens or other store at the cost of $20 or more.

If you read the article it says that the AVCA sends their specs to the NCAA which include them in the RFP sent to the cities. Interesting that the national soccer coaches meeting they mention brings in 4x the number of coaches. Not sure how they can say the avca is doing such a great job when they are dwarfed by other associations. Mens Soccer has big numbers as well. Men's Volleyball, not so much. Soccer convention is not in the same location or time as the final four and they always have it in a northeast city where huge numbers of people live and can get there easily. Soccers numbers are often inflated by lots of one day attendees keep in mind that the cities have to bid on the convention. if you are somewhere warm, Tampa, Houston, San Diego...you don't really need the convention in your city because tourism is already high this time of year. But Columbus, OKC, Omaha, Louisville, and the like need people in their hotels, restaurants etc. I am sure that the northern cities make a much better offer than the warm weather places

the NCAA has a boycott on Nevada? lame sauce. I think the state of Nevada should sue for discrimination. The NCAA does NOT have a "boycott" of Nevada. They have a prohibition against holding events in any state that has legalized sports wagering.

Omaha and Kansas City have great potential.
OKC was a big mistake. NCAA decision makers must have been impressed with OKC hosting the college softball world series and other baseball related events.
OKC's never hosted an NCAA baseball event. Norman has, but that's on campus. OKC's (with the Big XII as the host) have done DI and DII softball, wrestling, and several basketball regionals and, I think, gymnastics. Oklahoma City hosted the 2004 NCAA Baseball Regionals at Bricktown Ballpark. There may have been others, but that was the one I attended.

They won't do it at Bricktown very often because the Triple-A Whatever They're Called This Years give up several dates for Bedlam and other things already, so they're scheduled tight around that time of year.

What is considered "walking distance"? There were lots and lots of places to eat and drink within my definition, but maybe my ambulation sphere is larger than some. I only used a car once (Uber, not a cab) and it was not at all expensive. Don't get me wrong, I thought OKC was an odd choice, but not a total pile of suck.
And why not Denver? I think about 25% of convention goers fly through there anyway.

The catering was fantastic but it's also really really expensive. The hotels were within walking distance 52 Paces I remember from the Hyatt to the front door of the Colorado convention center. Lodo and Larimer Square is pretty close so there's a lot of good entertainment going on. I don't know where they would put the matches though. Denver is not a cheap destination if you want to do something like this so that may play into it.

...I don't know where they would put the matches though. Pepsi Center is 3/4 mile from the Convention Center. You just have to dodge Avalanche and Nuggets.
