I was at the game last night and it didn't look like the connection with the senior setter and the OHs was any better. Maybe it's the OH's, you think? Blocking was better, but we didn't play a very strong attacking team. I think we scored more points off Indiana's error then our own scoring. Naya is turning into a real B1G player. Naya has finally grown into the player I wanted to see. She's hitting much more efficient and her block is just ridicules, her head is way above the next. After Birks leaves there is going to be much more pressure on Naya I think as a offensive load. Although the middles are being more productive, I'm impressed with Ali B she is becoming more offensive which we really needed from the Middle 2 position. Maybe next year we won't rely on OHs too much. I know Birks is going to be missed much next season but I am really gonna miss Julia Conrad she has really turned into a great DS her and Brandi and scary back there. Hopefully the new freshman can be defensive minded.

According to Richkern.com Kylie Kuyava-DeBerg 6'3" 2017 OH from Hudson Iowa (Iowa Juniors) has verbaled to the Illini.
I actually spoke with her dad when she was at an Illini match earlier in the season. He told me at the time that Illinois was at the top of his daughter's recruiting list.

She seems much more comfortable offensively, now. I hope we get her more touches because adding more offense can only help us at this point.

Wow! 8 freshmen recruits along with any transfer in/out activity over the summer is going to make for a young and crowded gym next fall! Challenging, but a good opportunity for Hambly to build around Poulter's strengths next year.

Northwoods, these are 2017 recruits. As Emily Litella would have said...Oh. Well that's different....never mind!
or at least push back the sentiment another year:)

How many scholarships do the Illini have for 2017. A couple have to be walk-ons.

Well they had 8 scholarships at the start of the season, but since Maddie Mayers decided to graduate early and not return to the team, they have 7 for 2017 and 1 that can be used as early as 2016 (can be rolled over to 2017, leaving them with 8 again).

We definitely need another middle next year, either a transfer or an international player at this point.

That explains a lot, he's clearly planning for next year and not placed this season as a priority. Feel for the seniors.

These last 2 BIG matches will really show what the senior class is made of and whether this team can be a force in the NCAA's or just fade into a couple years of re-build.
