Who is this JMac you speak of? Name sounds vaguely familiar.
We used to see a fair amount of off-season UW volleyball insight posted on VT. Last couple of years, not so much. As soon as this tiny little men's basketball thingy is over, we can all start to focus on VB again.

What "basketball thingy"? UW does return significant talent, including the following starters (part-time): OH: Scambray So (Schwan So) OPP: Jones So (Schwan So) MB: Sybeldon Sr, Wade Sr L: Strickland Sr S: Tanner So, Beals Sr With four senior starters graduating, they need a strong showing in 2015 to keep recruiting from falling off too steeply. Will JMac leaving signal the end of the 6-2 offense at UW? It would be one way of maximizing current talent, with the primary needs at MB and L for 2016.

This is not related to JMac leaving, but I predict a big drop off in the Husky level of play this year.

This is not related to JMac leaving, but I predict a big drop off in the Husky level of play this year. Depends on if Jones, Scambray, Schwan, and Tanner (all sophs), plus Strickland (a sr) at Libero, can improve enough to make up for the loss of Vansant and Nelson. If they go to a 5-1, they'll be replacing just one starter (although a big one). My bigger worry is 2016.

It is the 2016 class, with Sybeldon, Wade, Strickland, and Beals graduating that will be the bellweather - if Keegan swings and misses on that, UW could be looking at duplicating Cal's fall, to the bottom of the Pac-12. 2016 recruiting was pretty much wrapped up before JMac left - not really Cook's swing to miss on. 2017 will really be his first at-bat, but not sure how many schollies they'll have available as that entire 2013 class was redshirted.

It isn't wrapped up until NLIs are signed, which for the 2016 class won't be until next November. Recruits bailing because the HC is leaving is very common, especially when a highly regarded coach is being replaced by a coach without a track record. Cook needs to do well in the 2015 season (top three in Pac-12?) to ensure that 2016 recruits don't jump ship. The one redeeming factor is that for 2016 UW probably doesn't need outside hitters or a setter, which are the most competitive positions recruiting-wise, assuming all of the current players stay put. They do need at least two middles and a libero. If they go to a 5-1, they shouldn't need a setter to replace Beals. With no juniors on the 2016 roster, I don't see more than one scholly available for 2017 (if Cook keeps one in his pocket or a senior transfer is part of the 2016 class).

UW's 2016 class is mostly local girls so I don't think there are real flight risks. You're missing my point, which was that the lack of blue chip commitments for 2016 can't really be put on Cook, as the top players pretty much all committed before JM left and it's not like he was in a reasonable position to close on a Plummer type at that point.

I'm only aware of Kara Bajema and Courtney Domme. Bajema is a 6'3" OH from Lynden Christian. Domme is a DS/L from Colorado. I've been out of touch for awhile - what other "local" recruits are you referring to?

In 2016, they are also getting the libero from Bajema's club and they picked up a middle Avvi Niece from SIVBC 17s.

It looks like she could be walking on, since only Julye signed an NLI in November. [Correction: Domme did sign an NLI.]So: 2015: Julye OH, Domme DS/L (Walk-on?) 2016: Bajema OH, Niece MB, McPherson L, Onosko L Do we know that McPherson and/or Onosko have scholarship offers? If not, that would still leave one or two available.

Washington is a great school in the pac12, so Im surprised they don't draw the recruits USC, PSU, etc do. They may not have the greatest volleyball history, but its not exactly a bad history either.
I mean they get there fair share of good recruits, but nothing like usc, texas, psu, Stanford and nebraska do.

I mean they get there fair share of good recruits, but nothing like usc, texas, psu, Stanford and nebraska do. Distance and weather plays a role. With sand volleyball becoming more prominent, that could hurt UW, even with a sand program (who wants to play sand in the rain?) with players who want to play indoor and sand. On the other hand, it can be argued that UW needs to pull local/NW rabbits out of the hat (Thompson, Morrison, Myhre, Lee, Deesing, Mussie, Rowland, Nelson, etc.) to be a Top 5/10 team. The 2005 team had eight players from WA/OR/BC.
