The best thing about the 2015 season for Cal is that it is all over. So many seasons for the Mariners have been like that.... Yeah, but at least the Seahawks have been entertaining the past few years.

UofA had a spring tournament this weekend and they were sluggish, slow, and couldn't terminate. However, they slaughtered their opponents. UTEP, NMST, and UNLV were the other teams. UA's Kalei Mau a transfer from Minnesota looked to be the one to try and fill the big shoes of Madi Kingdon. But, she kept getting blocked and was very inconsistent. And interestingly, they had Ahsley Harris and Jacobsen, both very tall, hitting from the right side. Overall, just a slow offense.
I have UA finishing at the bottom tier of the Pac next year..

Oregon could surprise a lot of teams this year. I think a lot of people are predicting between 2 and 4, and that's probably accurate, but I think 2 is realistic, and a trip to the elite 8 is a strong possibility.
The biggest issue for them will be how they replace Brenner. Don't get me wrong, Brenner offense wasn't there last season, but she played a key role in all 6 rotations. She ended up basically a defensive specialist who played all 6. She was the primary backup setter in most situations as well. Once they figure that out, they'll go far.

Don't get too down. (1) It's just Spring ball (2) Help is on the way. 3 outsides and a setter.... plus a couple transfers. Gonna be a very different looking Cats squad in August.

Brenner is not going to be hard to replace. She had a terrible senior year. I think Oregon's going to be really good next season. They've got a lot if talented kids coming in. The one I'm most excited about is Sumeet Gil. The most underrated player in her class.

She did everything for them from being a great defender, and many times as the off-setter. But yeah, she was definitely off, from an offensive standpoint and production, but she was the one that did all the little things. But definitely not as easy as plug in another hitter.

Ducks incoming talent looks impressive, for sure. There are always a lot of "if's" when you are dealing with freshman newly competing in the Pac12. The conference learning curve and getting a grip on the Ducks fast offense will challenge the new guys, for sure. If they are to play as advertised it's going to take handwork and concentration.
Overall there is great hope for the season when you take into account the talent we already possess. I like the type of leadership Martenne will offer. I like a healthy Benson. I like Nady's progress in the middle. And, I think our sophomores will give the new comers all they can handle - trust me. This is good for Duck Volleyball. I.e. Experience, depth, and competition at just about every position.
