Now that it seems many of the absolute top players have been cherry-picked by colleges for 2016 and 2017, I predict that 2018 will be a crucial year for PSU to find another special recruiting class with quantity and quality. I have no idea who the top 2018 players will be so I am looking for your suggestions. Will 2018 be a deep year for talented vb players or is it just to early to find some players with very good potential? Yes, I am serious. Here in Iowa bored, at the HP championships...here are the top kids born in 2000 and 2001 (2018 and some 2019 grads), and unlike what some of the post on this board have implied, they are all being recruited (multiple big time schools here just for tryouts, and based on last year in Tulsa, there will be dozens of the top schools (PSU, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Washington et al) watching the the 2018 class, once the tourney starts tomorrow, several of which already here watching them very closely... A1 select Red (top team) playing against international 96-97 DOB (Womens) teams (start off against Australia Tuesday first match): Mica Alison setter Holly Campbell MB web site www.hollycampbell.yolasite.com really high volleyball IQ from Austin Julia Devine Mia Grunze Kendall Kipp Brook Nuneviller (has been at OH in past at HP camps, the past two summers has been the top libero, which she plays at her club Az aspire) Erin O'Leary setter commited to Michigan for 2018 Taylor Roberts Emilee Rohrer Brooklyn Schirmer Haley Warner (Opp, Gatorade POY for Arkansas as a 9th grader, all American Max preps) Don't have time to list the other 4 teams, but 2018 studs throughout this (DOB 2000-2001) age group here...some notables include Devin Chang, setter from California on Blue (third team), Ella May Powell, 6' setter onWhite (2nd) team, IMO best setter of the bunch (but I am not a coach), Rachel Ahrens (white team, Sunshine OH, plays up, considered by many to be best OH in the country for 2018, suspect her speed hurt her this year, they seem to go with height and speed before power...when Rachel hits it everyone in building knows it, and suspect lesser teams run for cover...a kid that I think will be as good as Kat McCoy (libero at Texas), first name Jenna, dont know last name, cant find her in AES but I have seen her here, IMO she is the reason TBVA 15-1 won AAU open this year, took third USAV nationals in open... I have heard that every one of these kids have multiple offers from big name schools...cant confirm except for Erin O'Leary to Michigan in 2018 (posted by her club) It looks like your list is right on the target. Campbell, Nunviller, and Warner especially have been in other threads.

The other day, I was contemplating why there were not as many sophomores (2018's) committed as there have been in years past. And then I realized what a great thing this is, for a recruiter and a recruitee. I know there is usually a lot of pressure to commit early, but it seems that the girls are taking more time now, and I'm glad.

I was saying in the Wisconsin thread that I think kids would wait until at least the summer before their junior year to verbal.

I wonder if there might be silent verbals that we don't know about yet?

HP championships in Des Moines Iowa almost over, I did not see all the matches, but watched MANY of them...these are the top 42 2018 kids in the country competing against the top regional 17u players, and some 19u teams (Dominican Republic, Canada, Australia) and not just holding their own, but beating many/most of them ... Correction, these are the top 42 2018 kids THAT TRIED OUT. There are quite a few top players that don't do hp and will go to elite programs.

Every year there are plenty of top quality recruits that never try out with the USAV HP program, for a variety of reasons. I think it's fair to say that those in the HP program that make the top traveling and training teams are top quality recruits, but they aren't the ONLY quality recruits. Case in point, national sophomore of the year and short list for #1 recruit Thayer Hall is nowhere to be seen in the USAV program.

Sometimes a look says it all...although the difference between a commitment to play volleyball and intestinal discomfort can be tricky to discern.

Recruiting Class: # of commits by April 1 of sophomore year (reported to RichKern) 2018: 94 2017: 60 2016: 40 2015: 35 Those are approximate numbers by looking at posted graphs, but 2018 is clearly far ahead of previous years.

That was mid-September 2. This was mostly written from a Texas fan POV who still has yet to sign a 2018 But that is crazy because it's not even close. 35 to 40 to 60 to 94. And especially with the eighth grader committing to Minnesota this week, I am definitely eating my words.

Because a lot of the top 2018's haven't declared, it feels like the whole class is waiting...but apparently not.

I am also very interested to see where some of these top 2018's who have not committed land. Being fairly new at this it does look like both the Setter and Libero positions went fairly quickly. I believe that is the norm?
