Great read. It's good for college volleyball and the pac-12 if she returns to her former self. I wish her the best this fall.

Like all of we athletes that train at an elite level, the constant training and stress we put our bodies thru will eventually catch up with us, but we understand the consequences down the road and accept them.

I hope she is back to her prior form. I saw her early in her freshman season, and she was just hitting over people. She needed a bit of work in mixing shots, but she picked that up well and was great against Washington in that epic regional final that the Huskies ended up winning behind a tremendous match from Vansant.

That match was insane, and Nwanebu's numbers were ridiculous. I hope she has a good junior year.

She could have been the next 4-time 1st team All American. Hope she comes back to her old form.

She makes a really good point about the mental impact of such injuries on elite athletes.
It's also a good reminder of the insidious nature of overuse injuries. We teach athletes to play through the pain, so it's no wonder when they wind up with overuse injuries. They've been ignoring the legitimate complaints of their body for months. My prediction is that as we see earlier and earlier specialization, we are going to see more and more of these kind of injuries and athletes an earlier age. I wonder what it will take to break the cycle?

Nice find rainbow. This was incredibly endearing to read. She's very easy to cheer for.

What is so striking? She writes so well and with knowledge. I hope this reaches, not only athletes who may benefit, but parents and coaches too. It states clearly the dangers of being over zealous, of playing with injury and how strong temptations—winning at all costs, not "letting down" teammates—can lead to permanent injuries.

a remarkable read from ebony.
i think some folks are missing the point of her story. perhaps her "play" may return to its old form, but it sounds like her body may not, at least not completely. she's learning to recognize when her body is telling her something, but also to play with the limitations on her body due to her injury, after ignoring it for so long.
all the best to her ... writing this must have been very cathartic as well.

I'm scared... She is going to be coming back even stronger. I feel it in my bones.

And now for the BIG question: Why didn't Mick red-shirt his still not-recovered-from-an-overuse-injury athlete? The treatment is COMPLETE rest for what, 3 months? Way to show how much you care about your athletes.

An outstanding read.
I agree with the comment above that this needs to be shared with parents and coaches along with players.
