Thanks for the input so far. The repeat names are particularly useful.
Just to clarify, no need to mention the likes of Pettit and Scates. If they're in the AVCA Hall of Fame, I think we've got it covered. :-)

As a potential source--why not check a bunch of the Volleyball Solution videos Jim Stone did--or the Art of Coaching videos. They have different levels (other than NCAA D-1) of coaches--and it'd give you a chance to hear those coaches communicate. Some coaches may be great at winning, but have zero ability communicating to a larger, coaching audience. Definitely worth having a look. Absolutely true on the communication, though in an interview situation like this if the job is done well we should be able to tease out some good stuff. A bit different than a "lecture" type situation.

OK, I'm good with every name that has been mentioned so far.
If you assume that winning is hard, here are some coaches who must know something because all they do is win. Some are better skills coaches, some are better program managers but they all win.

I'm working on a project that I could use some community help with. It's called Volleyball Coaching Wizards, and it will be a collection of interviews with the world's best coaches - at all levels. My partner is one of the top professional coaches in Germany. We're still only in the beginning stages, which basically means compiling a list of prospective interviewees. It's not too hard to come up with a list of the best collegiate coaches. The AVCA has its Hall of Fame and we can look at the list of NCAA win totals. We can do something like that for high school coaches as well. The challenging level is Juniors. Not a lot of records kept for those coaches. So we're looking to crowdsource the nominees from that level. What we're after is coaches who have been active for 10+ years with a fairly obvious record of success. That could be championships or players sent on to college or any other objective measure. Equally as important, we want people other coaches can learn from. Good role models. Feel free to make suggestions here (if you're happy for the resulting discussion ), or do so on the website. And if you'd like to nominate someone beyond the world of Juniors, feel free. We're definitely looking for coaches in all categories who have done exceptional things, but who have mainly flown under the radar. Thanks in advance. If you're looking for a list of some of the top junior girls club coaches, you may wish to start with some of the Junior lists on successful club programs at National events. Chicago (through the JVA belt to Kentucky), SoCal, Texas, etc... have histories of great success. There are several links on the other areas of the country where many successful performers come from. Then talk to some of those club directors. The interesting thing is that the "name" coaches aren't always the best coaches in any given program... some coaches not searching for the limelight are greater teachers, some greater leaders, some greater match coaches, some greater mentors/role models, some greater recruiters. It really all depends on what you are looking for for your project. What are coaching wizards good at?

Jenny McDowell and Tom Turco were among the first few and both responded immediately that they're in. :-)

Wayne and Susan Kreklow, the University of Missouri. Loved by their players, respected by coaches all over the country. Members of the Positive Coaching Coalition. Practice what they preach, good communicators, run a successful program without being cut-throat. Have the girls best interests at hand and yes that can go hand in hand with being successful.

Let's go diverse, Nana Allison-Brewer; she is big in the Native county. She was at South Dakota State University and did a reasonable two seasons there as a first Native American head coach. Now she is at a all Native University. They weren't doing too well until she arrived. The team bonding and atmosphere as a whole has boosted up. The structure and chemistry as a unit is ten times better than before.
I don't know. There is something about those Natives...
