Not sure how to go about this but wanted some input from the peanut gallery.. Great Lakes PVL roster came out last week and featured 3 current Lewis seniors- surprising as I thought guys need to graduate/finish playing first before committing to a pro team (even if they won't be playing until after season)?
Wasn't going to bring it up but GLakes has since pulled the roster off their official page. Smells a bit funny to me. Anyone know the rule on this?? PVL is branded as 'A regional indoor pro league sanctioned by USAVolleyball'. Hopefully these kids aren't getting screwed over in this process!
Anybody? Buehler..?

Well, at least 20 guys that graduated in 2014 played in last years PVL. Joe Smalzer National Champion played for Iowa. Not good for Loyola. Stanford had players, LBSU had players, UCLA had players.

Who knows maybe there is no contract, the players don't have agents, and aren't getting paid. PVL is not a Professional league. Maybe the coaches of the PVL team asked players to play. The players could have said I can't commit now but I'm interested. Then the region goes ahead and posts the roster anyways. Can't blame the kids for that. That would be USAV and the regions fault.

Sounds to me like someone's fishing for trouble. If someone says to me "I wasn't going to say anything but..." that's clearly someone who has ulterior motives... especially if they created a screen name just to post this. IF it happened in sure the NCAA already knows about it, they haven't said anything in form of an announcement, so it would seem that there wasn't a violation.

I imagine the difference here would be timing. No rules against college grads joining pro teams after they graduate/finish eligibility (or deciding to end their eligibility early by declaring).. They key would be that its AFTER they finish/they're finished once they decide.. Look at all the kids who just finished Bball then declare the draft. I'm not well versed in this stuff so luckily I don't deciede. Just thought that was the rule of law. And it's pro- says it right there in the title. Just saying..

Well the roster deadline was before the end of the season last year, so all 20+ would be at fault. Hulse was on the Iowa team, so not good for us then.

Isn't it Premier Volleyball League?

Shawn Herron is on OSU team roster now and is online. Lindenwood has guys. IPFW has guys. PSU has Goodell committed. Plus the older Russell played last year.

I don't know all the rules, but have any of these Lewis guys actually participated in the PVL? Is the PVL really a professional league in the eyes of the NCAA? To me, its just a bunch of USAV members playing in an organized league of their own (despite having pro experience somewhere outside of USAV). Again, I don't know all the rules. Look at the collegians who have been on rosters for the US before graduation. Micah, James Shaw, Michael Brinkley, etc. Granted, it wasn't the PVL but other sanctioned USAV events.
On a complete side note, last time I checked, it's funny (in a purely harmless way) that Dave Deuser is the PVL head coach for the Great Lakes region.

It's possible that the Lewis guys didn't break any rules, but Coach Friend might not want to take any chances on it.

Many of the guys are listed on rosters but none of them will train/compete with the teams until their college seasons are completed.

Didn't Jaylen Reyes actually play for the WEVA team last year in a couple matches at PVL?

The irony would be off the charts if Deuser managed to cause a second vacated national championship for Lewis.

Apparently I have too much time on my hands here, but tried to check out the rule book. Here's what I got. Again, I think timing is key in when decisions/commitments were made. (Also, this is D1- lewis could have different rules as D2?) It goes on after that 12.1.2 Amateur Status. An individual loses amateur status and thus shall not be eligible for intercollegiate competition in a particular sport if the individual: (Revised: 4/25/02 effective 8/1/02, 4/24/03 effective 8/1/03, 4/29/10 effective 8/1/10) (a) Uses his or her athletics skill (directly or indirectly) for pay in any form in that sport; (b) Accepts a promise of pay even if such pay is to be received following completion of intercollegiate athletics participation;
