Last years coaches poll vs. standings: SB & Davis were the big 'surprises' 2014 Poll / Standings Haw / 2 LB / 1 SB / 6 North/ 3 1/2 Irv / 5 Poly/ 7 Davis/ 3 1/2 Full/ 8 UCR / 9 2015: should be very competitive with the top 7 teams #1) LB getting more bullish on this team. the two transfers are solid by adding the MAC leading hitter (%) and a good defensive proven OH - now just need two of the new players (out of 8) to step up, how hard will that be? #2) Haw just to get the Hawaii faithful all worked up - no slight (real or perceived) against Haw will ever goes unpunished or unnoticed on Volleytalk #3) SB now that Spindt is out, maybe this is too high, lots of experience that seemed to underperform in 2014 #4) Irv Bubica could be the POY, plus a new coach worked wonders for SB 2 years ago, and Davis last year, Irvine in 2015? #5) Poly expecting these core group to take a step up, blocking is a big question mark though #6) North without Hinger, and a returning defense that needs to improve #7) Davis probably the worst prediction, but somebody had to be #7. showed a tremendous jump in one year, but did lose some experienced players, could there be another surprise repeat - expect another aggressive serving team #8 1/2) tie Full & UCR I don't really see who these teams are going to beat in conference but each other You lost nearly your ENTIRE starting lineup, while Hawaii returns theirs, upgrades at the middle and has a solid libero to replace Mendoza, and you still think LB will finish ahead of UCSB and Hawaii? UCSB gets lindsey, who is the highest rated recruit, and according to everyone who's seen her play, she's the real deal, and you still HAVE lb ahead? As A hawaii fan, I can admit UCSB might win the conference. Long beach won't finish Higher than third, and I can assure you that.

Correction, you lose nearly your entire offensive output. I don't care that Hawaii is second. They very may well finish second. But that will be to UCSB. Not long beach.

Long Beach may not finish 2nd behind Hawai'i but they will end up splitting with the Bows this 2015.

I think at this point there are too many unknowns to put LBSU in that number 1 spot. Sherridan Atkinson has not played a college match yet. While I anticipate her to make a very large impact this upcoming year, who knows what is going to happen? She may be able to play up to Mackie's level, or maybe not. Benson seems like a good middle blocker from what I have seen, so I am not too worried about the middle blocker positions. My biggest concern is the outside hitter position. I trust that Anete Brinke will have improved enough to consistently terminate and play in an OH position. However, we lose Reid who provided over 3 kps (i think) and was also a 6 rotation player that played good defense and passed well. That will be hard to replace. So until we have seen them play, I am hesitant to put LBSU ahead of UCSB and Hawaii. However, LBSU in my opinion, could be a tournament team and could sneak into that number 1 spot by the end of the season.

Long Beach may not finish 2nd behind Hawai'i but they will end up splitting with the Bows this 2015. Not this year. UCSB will most likely split with Hawaii. Both are returning a lot of talent. Not saying saying LBSU doesn't have any, but they lose too much on offense and defense to contend.

Hawai'i isn't splitting with anyone, they are going to run away with the conference title. Everybody else will be playing for 2nd place.

Reid: 2.77 kps, 0.217, 0.966 Serve %, 0.14 SA/set, 0.948 serve receive, 0.51 bps Barber (xfer from Marquette), 2.75 kps, 0.233, 0.950 serve %, 0.13 SA/set, serve receive 0.964, 0.44 bps somehow I think LB will be able to adequately replace Reid, and Brinke should be improved so LB has upside at the OH yep, it's a big question of filling in the Opp & Libero spots, but LB has more depth & a lot more competition than last year to do that will LB be better?, who knows, but they could have a very high ceiling - and an imposing wall up front with Murray, Benson, & Atkinson - LB is loaded at MB

Brinke should be much more terminal this year, and plus she is a great all around player so she should do well. The libero spot is the one spot that I am not sure about right now. I am sure someone will solidify that spot but who is it gonna be? Jackson is going to be hard to replace.

Welch had all the Miami momentum going in years past.
UH has always had the mojo when they've played UCSB ..not much else to say!
