Pablo actually likes Fullerton over Tennessee and Mississippi St. and would take UCR over MSU at home (with Tennessee as a toss up). The conference "average" (mean) rating difference between the Big West and SEC is only 40 points in favor of the SEC - well within home-court advantage and basically a toss-up. 13 teams vs. 9 can make team by team comparisons untenable (e.g. 1st v 1st, 2nd v 2nd), etc.. Given the SEC's unbalanced schedule, it's pretty easy to play an SEC schedule that is significantly more difficult than a Big West schedule, or one that is significantly less difficult - depends on the draw and who you are (f.ex - Florida doesn't get to play Florida - making their schedule a LOT easier).. If Pablo has Fullerton over Tennessee then Pablo needs to be thrown away. I think you underestimate how terrible Tennessee was last year.

You know it must be off-season if people are arguing about who has the worst team

Davis is going to be a force the next 4 years. Who do they have for the next four years? Squires is a senior next year, but who else after that?

You know it must be off-season if people are arguing about who has the worst team Maybe because the usual arguments over who has the best team are getting stale: Hawaii, Long Beach and the flavor of the month.

Okay, I had to drill down way too many pages to find this nearly abandoned Big West thread, so let's yank it up nearer the top. I'll offer my prediction for 2015 BW Rankings:
1) Hawaii 2) Santa Barbara 3) Long Beach 4) Irvine 5) Davis 6) Northridge 7) Cal Poly 8) Riverside 9) Fullerton

what happened with Ali Spindt of Santa Barbara - that's a big blow to not have her

Ali Spindt and Kristen Berlo are listed as UCSB student assistants.

Is Spindt not healthy enough to keep playing?

Ali Spindt and Kristen Berlo are listed as UCSB student assistants. I know, it doesn't really answer the question. two years ago she was the frosh of the year - now not even a red-shirt on the roster? is her career over?

Last years coaches poll vs. standings: SB & Davis were the big 'surprises'
2014 Poll / Standings
Haw / 2 LB / 1 SB / 6 North/ 3 1/2 Irv / 5 Poly/ 7 Davis/ 3 1/2 Full/ 8 UCR / 9
2015: should be very competitive with the top 7 teams
#1) LB getting more bullish on this team. the two transfers are solid by adding the MAC leading hitter (%) and a good defensive proven OH - now just need two of the new players (out of 8) to step up, how hard will that be? #2) Haw just to get the Hawaii faithful all worked up - no slight (real or perceived) against Haw will ever goes unpunished or unnoticed on Volleytalk #3) SB now that Spindt is out, maybe this is too high, lots of experience that seemed to underperform in 2014 #4) Irv Bubica could be the POY, plus a new coach worked wonders for SB 2 years ago, and Davis last year, Irvine in 2015? #5) Poly expecting these core group to take a step up, blocking is a big question mark though #6) North without Hinger, and a returning defense that needs to improve #7) Davis probably the worst prediction, but somebody had to be #7. showed a tremendous jump in one year, but did lose some experienced players, could there be another surprise repeat - expect another aggressive serving team #8 1/2) tie Full & UCR I don't really see who these teams are going to beat in conference but each other

re: Davis-- D. Conner is paying and has paid his dues. The dude is making the most of his stint in NoCal. Outside of Stanford, the void up north has left a vacuum currently being filled by DC. They'll be top four (this season and next).
The next big-w winning tradition. '-)
