UH summer session II started this past Monday and there are 14 players registered for school. Evidently one player had not or could not register for some reason. There are 12 players from last Fall's roster, 2 freshmen and one transfer, supposedly required by Shoji to start UH SSII. Does anyone have any knowledge of who is not enrolled? It's either Castillo or Granato. Burns is already enrolled and Mitchem is still taking classes at IVC. Castillo and Granato both just played at Nationals so I don't think it's a problem right now if they're not enrolled.

My bad it should be 3 freshmen and one transfer. So it should be 16 players in school right now. I'm mentioning this because, Dave Shoji was on 1420 Espn radio this week and mentioned a player not enrolled in SSII because of a situation. I did not listen in and read this on a blog. Thanks, didn't know about Burns and Mitchem.

Tennessee? SEC? Rich conference but overrated conference for Women's Volleyball. The Big West being smaller has a more competitive conference from top to bottom. IMHO. I wouldn't say SEC is overrated for volleyball. They had five, if I remember correctly, teams that qualified for NCAA tourney last year (Florida, Kentucky, Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama). It is a tough conference. I think Big West is good conference for sure, but I believe SEC is tougher conference than Big West. Besides Hawaii, LBSU, the remaining teams are not that strong IMHO.

CSUN and UCSB tied Hawaii in 2013 for the Big West title. All three teams competed in the NCAA's that season with Hawaii and CSUN advancing to the second round. In addition to Long Beach St. and Hawaii, the Big West will have three other teams--UCSB, CSUN, UC Davis--who will contend for the conference title in 2015 as well as an at large tournament berth.

I agree. The bottom of the SEC could easily beat the bottom of the Big West. The SEC is probably stronger right now, but who knows? Maybe with the addition of beach volleyball that will attract more high level recruits who want to play both sports to come to the Big West.

Umm..like the ACC's Duke? All I heard last season was how Duke was going to beat UH. After the match, Duke was shelled shocked. Hawai'i negated any of Duke's weapons. The Beach, Csun, UC Davis, UCSB, Cal Poly, UC Riverside are very tough teams IMHO. Sure i'll recant my previous statement, both Conferences are Midd Major's for sure. My point was Tennessee is not step up IMHO.

Pablo actually likes Fullerton over Tennessee and Mississippi St. and would take UCR over MSU at home (with Tennessee as a toss up). The conference "average" (mean) rating difference between the Big West and SEC is only 40 points in favor of the SEC - well within home-court advantage and basically a toss-up. 13 teams vs. 9 can make team by team comparisons untenable (e.g. 1st v 1st, 2nd v 2nd), etc.. Given the SEC's unbalanced schedule, it's pretty easy to play an SEC schedule that is significantly more difficult than a Big West schedule, or one that is significantly less difficult - depends on the draw and who you are (f.ex - Florida doesn't get to play Florida - making their schedule a LOT easier)..

I know it sounded crazy. I really liked Bri Holmes and Ashley Cox. To me, if they stayed together, this season they would have been a threat. Now Bri is going to Tenn. Ugh! I really like Ashley's game.

UC Irvine adds two sophomore transfers. Luna Tsujimoto (5'6" Libero) from Ohio State and Ali Koumelis (5'9" Setter) from Portland.

UC Irvine got a good Libero... Luna is a fierce defender.

If Pablo has Fullerton over Tennessee then Pablo needs to be thrown away.
