So if pac rim won u17 bjnc, why were they seeded 8th at the holiday classic? If they were on the other side of the bracket, they would have played hbc in the finals. But they lose to hbc in 3 in the quarters and finish 8th and then get the 8th seed at the invitational. BTW they lost in 3 to hbc in that one also finishing 8th. Then add a potential MVP player and they are still on the same side as hbc...would have been better to be seeded 6th. Like I said, I think the scva is making a point. I haven't looked at the flow but I bet you a $1 someone is considering manipulating the bracket. I'm pretty sure that there are more than one team trying to get the best match-ups.

Im surprised that at the 15s age group Milwaukee Volleyball Club is the two seed... Anyone see this team play? Any insights?

Any teams look a lot better because they added players* or are just playing better than their current seed and could be bracket busters?
What team is most likely to pull off a big upset?
Anyone want to predict finals for each age group?
*Aside from Pac Rim 18s who added Ma'a, which has already been discussed

MVC 15's is a solid 15 open team but definietly one tier below the likes of Surf, 949, Pali and HBC.
my predicted winners for the classic (15s-18s)
18s: The HBC 18 Black / Pacific Rim 18-1 (whoever wins that semifinal game) - I think Pacific Rim is going to win because Micah Ma`a is way better then people think he is, and TJ has the olympics in sight, not some dinky SCVA tournament
17s: SCVC 17Quiksilver - they are just too deep at every position, and Morrisey has gotten a lot better playing alongside TJ for school season
16s: Spectrum 16's - no one knows how they win, but they somehow do. Their setter is insane and they play good defense but they just find ways to win.
15s: 949 15 Black-M-KP - did not do well at the qualifier but they have gotten a lot better and all of their pin hitters are 6'3 or taller which is huge in 15s.
14s: Balboa Bay 14Asics - no one really cares about 14s but this team is GOOD. they are gonna breeze through this tourney.

In the 15s, the two strong teams are 949 15 Black and the MB Surf 15 teams. I believe they played recently and MB Surf won in a close match. It is always tough to predict if the non-SoCal teams will be a threat. The 15s winner should be one of these two teams.

The HBC 15 coach gets his team to play exceptionally well in the big tournaments, especially against 949.
Last year at the Boy's Classic HBC 14 came in with a 3 seed and won the tournament. They beat 949 14 in the quarterfinals. At the 2014 BJNC 14, HBC beat 949 in round 3 and HBC 14 finished 3rd, the highest out of California teams.
At the 2014 Holiday Classic HBC 15 was seeded 23 and finished equal 5th. At the 2015 Junior Boys Invite, HBC 15 (came in with 7 seed) beat 949 15 (came in with 2 seed) in the quarterfinals. HBC 15 ended up 2nd. I think (could be wrong) the above tournaments are the last 3 times 949 15 and HBC 15 teams have met.
Pali 15 beat MB Surf at the Jr Boys Invite - the only loss MB Surf had in that tournament.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out and if history repeats itself. My guess is that HBC 15 will beat Seaside 15 in round 2. Then HBC 15 and 949 15 will be in the same pool in round 4. The team that finishes 2nd in that pool will likely play Pali 15 to determine who will play MB Surf 15 in the gold semifinals. The team that wins that pool in round 4 will probably play Seaside 15 to determine who will play the 2nd seed spot (MVC if they hold it) in the gold semifinals on the other side.

SCVC 17 looks like a step above everyone else in 17s.
I noticed in their last tournament Balboa 14 went 3 sets with HBC 14 and Highline 14 and lost to Highline 14.

I agree with this guy, HBC 15's always does well in these big tournaments but they struggle in the SCVA points tournaments.

So any upset predictions for tomorrow's opening pools? Or are all of the favored, higher seeded teams going to win?

MVC 15s isn't a great defensive team, but they make up for that at their pins. First upset, MVC loses to SMBC in 3

Looked like most of the 18s teams ran quite a few line ups as the top half of the 1 seeds were not tested much today. A couple "upsets" though ocvc beating vortex and SMBC over rockstar.

Sting 17's avoids big upset on day one with gritty 19-17 win over SMBC. Had they lost, they would have been knocked out by tie-breakers.

Anyone know why San Clemente 16-1 (2nd in 15 Open last year) is playing 17's in this tournament? They almost beat Scott Stadick and Milwaukee Sting today (15-9 in the 3rd).
