anyone have or has found video of any games from the weekend? I know it's only been a day but I'm itching to see how teams are looking.

Winners: 18 HBC 17 HBC 16 Balboa 15 MB Surf 14 Balboa Some observations from watching a lot of the 15s matches - Both Milwaukee teams are average. The MVC team a bit better (still not sure how they were a 2 seed), but they were fortunate in their pools getting fairly weak competition. They made it to the semi-finals by beating one of the weaker SoCal teams (OCVC). They had trouble against the stronger SoCal teams. Same can be said for the Adversity team. Not strong at all. The good news for all of them, however is they now have a good feel for what they will see at Nationals.
- The strongest of the Northern California teams I watched was MVVC. They hung in with some of the better SoCal teams and might surprise some teams at Nationals.
- The HBC team needs to ease up on their phony intimidation tactics. It's one thing to celebrate good plays, it's another to simply go over the top in looking like a 3-ring circus gone bad. I guess the coach is worried that their team needs to get in to the heads of other teams as opposed to winning on merit.
- The best match I watched by far was the semi-final between 949 and MB Surf. There was a good crowd and a lot of energy for both teams. Great players on both sides. The volleyball was very high level. One of the standouts was the MB Surf libero. He was digging and tracking everything. The outside hitters for both teams were very athletic and talented. One of the MB Surf middles also stood out. The MB Surf team just had a bit more fire power with their hitters than the 949 team, but this should have been the finals. These two may well meet up in the final at Nationals.
- The HBC and Pali teams are getting better. I remember watching both of these teams at the qualifier in January. They were both good, but it appears the high school break may have helped. Both teams are quality teams (even with the bit of attitude from HBC). They too could do well at Nationals.
- The At Large bid teams from SoCal are not very strong. OCVC is ok, but SG Elite is very average.
- The tournament was a good one with most of the top seeds showing why they are top seeds. I don't have any knowledge of the teams going to Nationals that have not played in a SoCal tourney (Canadians or Puerto Rican teams in particular), but based on resume, the MB Surf team should get the #1 seed. 949 should be somewhere in the top 5.
Good analysis. Thanks for sharing. I agree the semi was great match to watch. 949 did have match point. The two teams are very close. I thought 949 had a slight advantage on offensive while MB Surf 15 was able to dig almost everything 949 15 threw at them. Great defense on both teams but I thought MB Surf had a slight advantage on defense. I thought Pali 15 looked better on Saturday. It looked like fatigue set in on day 3 and they were still playing good but not at the same level.

Of the 25-player roster for the 2015 Boys’ Youth National Training Team who played at this tournament, who stood out out as being ready to make the travel team? I thought there was a major gap in level of play between the 18s who I saw on the roster and the 17s who made the roster. I did not see all the 17s on the roster play. Ma's was a lot better than I expected. roster - www.teamusa.org/USA-Volleyball/Features/2015/May/27/Twenty-Five-on-Boys-Youth-Roster

The HBC 15 coach gets his team to play exceptionally well in the big tournaments, especially against 949. Last year at the Boy's Classic HBC 14 came in with a 3 seed and won the tournament. They beat 949 14 in the quarterfinals. At the 2014 BJNC 14, HBC beat 949 in round 3 and HBC 14 finished 3rd, the highest out of California teams. At the 2014 Holiday Classic HBC 15 was seeded 23 and finished equal 5th. At the 2015 Junior Boys Invite, HBC 15 (came in with 7 seed) beat 949 15 (came in with 2 seed) in the quarterfinals. HBC 15 ended up 2nd. I think (could be wrong) the above tournaments are the last 3 times 949 15 and HBC 15 teams have met. Pali 15 beat MB Surf at the Jr Boys Invite - the only loss MB Surf had in that tournament. It will be interesting to see how it plays out and if history repeats itself. My guess is that HBC 15 will beat Seaside 15 in round 2. Then HBC 15 and 949 15 will be in the same pool in round 4. The team that finishes 2nd in that pool will likely play Pali 15 to determine who will play MB Surf 15 in the gold semifinals. The team that wins that pool in round 4 will probably play Seaside 15 to determine who will play the 2nd seed spot (MVC if they hold it) in the gold semifinals on the other side. Some observations from watching a lot of the 15s matches - Both Milwaukee teams are average. What happened to spectrum 16s? Were they missing a player or just played poorly.

What happened to spectrum 16s? Were they missing a player or just played poorly. People realized they are a three man team. They have the best setter, a solid middle, and a consistent outside hitter. There are certain rotations where Adam Parks has nobody to go to. He doesn't trust his hitters other than those two so Parks just sets his twin maybe 15 back row balls per set. They are beatable if you get them at the right time. They are the best blocking team in some rotations but in others, their weaknesses really show.

There's no excuse for why they did. NCVC outplayed them and Spectrum didn't match up well against NCVC. Spectrum did get a new opposite but he's not even as good as the one they have starting.

That's a load of crap, sorry but it is and every kid on Spectrum would agree with me too. The new opposite gets pits over the net when he blocks.

DONT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT TIM OR THE BALDWIN FAMILY AGAIN. Says you are 23 but you are probably just a jealous 16 year old who got blocked off the court by a freshman. I'm from freaking Pac Rim 18s and I respect this kid. If I respect this kid, you should too. Nobody cares who you play for. Whether you play for the US Men's National team or a 13s club team, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean everyone has to agree with it.

He's a solid hitter already and only just finished his freshman year. I know this kid and he's a hard worker who has the drive and natural ability to be the next big name in this sport. With his size and ability I would not be surprised if he gets to the level of greats like TJ Defalco in the years to come.

My point was that they didn't lose because Tim wasn't there. He is better than the other opposite but not so much better that they can't win without him Baldwin on the court. Baldwin is a beast physically for a freshman. He's one of the better freshman because of his length. In conclusion, Spectrum shouldn't lose to NCVC. Tim has a ton of potential but he's no Tj by any means.
