All-state does rely on stats pretty heavily so I guess that's the reason for some of the choices

My son should have been first team. His work ethic is second to none. Im pretty goddam pissed that he didnt get any award or recognition. Politics man. Dont be surprised when UC Irvine comes begging for my son because you guys cant recognize a diamond in the rough. Im not bias either.

Before everyone starts wondering why not so and so. Remember a couple things. 1. Only players who receive 1st or 2nd team all conference are eligible. 2. Only players who are nominated by their coaches are eligible 3. Conference reps do rank players based on all conference voting that occurred at their meetings. I.E Player of the year, 2nd in voting etc.

Middletondad...down boy...3 kids from last year that didn't make first team are playing D1 this year (Klassen/Stanford, Romano/Ball State, Schroeder/IPFW). Props to those that got voted in ahead of them/him. Good luck to your son/buddy.

Congrats to Szews for POY and for committing to Ball State. Very humble player, and very deserving of that top spot. Interesting that Ball State will now have 3 Wisconsin POY's next year

How is scott macgillis 1st team? I can name at least a dozen that deserve it over him. Scotty had a good year but not 1st team worthy. Well maybe if your team didn't get dogged in the first round of state. I would love to see who the other 12 people are that you think. I bet you probably think that first team all state should of been all Middleton players.

Pretty sure Middleton dad is a kid on his phone in Senior English class trolling you all.
Top team looks "safe" to me. Lacks creativity. All seniors and all kids who play one position. If you asked coaches "who would you draft to build a team?" you might get different answers. But, opinion is opinion. Congrats to all.

I graduated in 82' buddy.

Congratulations to each recipient - a nice recognition of many years of work to elevate your game to a high level.
I think it would nice to see each "team" be a complete team. First team is 2 setters and 4 outsides - not much of a team. They're missing a few positions. I'd like to see first team be the top player in each position, a super team, the best the state of WI could put on the court.

I think the unfortunate reality of this forum is that it allows people, like myself, like all of us, to hide behind a pseudonym. By doing this, we can pretty much talk up any player in the state that we want. For example, about two weeks ago, there were 2 pages purely dedicated to Scotty MacGillis. Whether he deserves what he got...ill keep that to myself, but on another note I am more than confident that this forum, the Journal Sentinel, The Freeman, etc. play a role in influencing coaches decisions on all state. Scotty was mentioned once or twice prior those two pages. Media plays a HUGE role in the influencing of people. What this forum takes away from is letting kids do the talking on the court with their play.....hope I was able to keep this post civil

Scotty macgillis on first team.....yikes! A few other questionable picks too There is rumor that MacGillis was POY for Woodland Conf. If true that may have been the reason for first team

Love the dad's standing up for their kids - would not want it any other way. The Middleton kid is really good, so is Quinn Farrell and Nick Malek, who if they were playing on a let talented team may have won POY cause they would have had twice the stats. I am sure that all three were in the discussion for POY. It is great to see setters recognized - usually they and the liberos are completely under appreciated.
I feel compelled to tell everyone that IMO, Scott MacGillis was the best player in the gym when Tosa West lost to Brookfield East in sectional semis. Scotty could put together a long recruiting video from that match alone. He is tall, long, can jump out of the gym, and has great hands on defense and serve receive. I have seen him play, often, and no I am not his dad, or brother or related in any way. I have seen all the outsides play, a lot, and IMO, Scotty is one of the best outsides in the state fully deserving of first team. I could make an argument that any one of them is "the best". (I don't consider Szews an outside, I consider him an Opposite who happened to play outside this year.)
Congratulations to all the boys who found their name on any of the lists.
And midwestparent is right - there are men playing in college who were not first or second team or any team all state their senior year, Zack Bohmann from Nathan Hale class of 2015 is playing at McKendree, a handful of men are playing at Marion, Brad Larson Tosa E is playing at Quincy, Michael Hirosky Kaukauna is playing at Cincinnati Christian. I can't wait to see where the class of 16 ends up. Remember, last year's POY did not find a college program until I think he graduated in June. Now he is the starting Libero at Ball State.

We did discuss possibly looking at positions for the future in our meeting Friday night, and working out a system that would reward position play but also not hurt kids because they play a position loaded with talent. However with that being said: 1. No other sport other than football goes by position. Even that it goes by lineman / backs/ offense / defense etc 2. What about someone like Szews. Do you treat him as an outside or an opposite his natural position? 3. Shouldn't the best players of volleyball, who had the best seasons and had the biggest impact on matches be the ones chosen instead of the position they play? 4. What about a player like Watry. Do you put him as a Setter or an Opposite (if not for him hitting on Friday do they beat Germantown?) 5. Looking at this year assuming you have Szews to Outside. Between Erdmann, MacGillis, Zeske, Keefe only 1 of them receive 1st team all state and 1 of them moves to High Honorable mention. But then you take 2 players who were 2nd team all state and they become 1st team just because they play Middle? Then at Opposite you are pulling between High Honorable Mention between 2 players. 6. I believe the MIVA, and MPSF do not go by positions 7. Do not forgot coaches have to pay for these nominations, usually out of their pocket, for their players to cover the costs of the plaques etc. Hence why sometimes not every player in the state is nominated.

"7. Do not forgot coaches have to pay for these nominations, usually out of their pocket, for their players to cover the costs of the plaques etc. Hence why sometimes not every player in the state is nominated."
Really? That is wrong. There should be some funding like 1% of the season tournament admissions revenue state wide, or 1% of the take at state, or a donation jar at the state tourney to cover the cost of plaques. At least let the coaches sell prepackaged popcorn at the door on the way out..... Coaches do enough, they should not have to spend their own, or the school's cash on an award.
