I watched the Lambourne stream of Ross/Fendrick against Agatha/Barbara. First how awesome is it that an Olympian is just sitting there streaming all day and adding his commentary and thoughts. Can you imagine Chris Mullin or Shawn Kemp thinking to themselves, "fans have no way to see this, let me spend my whole day here filming so they can." Im a Rich fan for life now.
In the first game Lauren looked like she didnt belong. She seemed overwhelmed. But then she fought back, got the second narrowly and then she and April blew out the world champions in Game 3. Couldnt happen to a nicer person. Very happy for Lauren.

I love the way Phil is looking for chances to 2 ball now. Phil with the greatest match ending block ever on Allison. I know the Brazilians havent played in a while, but that has to feel good for Nick/Phil.
Havent watched first two games yet, but in that game, I think Phil/Nick played much more the way they should. Phil looking to hit on 2 and Nick swinging more

I really like his commentary as well. He's very calm and not over the top with it.

He is sitting in the hot sun to do it... Much respect.
FIVB set up is unbelievable. Temporary air conditioned buildings everywhere. Air vents in player boxes. Plastic mats and runways all over the beach to walk on and blown off regularly.
Nick played very shaky early on and Phil didn't block anything until late in second game. Great match. Casey tweaked ankle, but looked fine later. Horst was sick and will be back in action today.

Lucena/Phil take the 1st against Nummerdor/Varenhorst 21-9. Phil had like 5 blocks and some service aces in the match. Nick played good too.

That was unreal. Phil embarrassed the Dutch. Reindeer got so pissed it looked like he was going to attack his partner, then he poached a short serve and Phil promptly swatted his shot too.
Nick played aggressive and made some digs, but didnt have much to do since Phil scored seven real points on his own

And then they get a lead and give it away to lose the 2nd set.... This team drives me crazy sometimes.
Nick/Phil end up winning the 3rd though.

You do realize these are the best teams in the world they are playing against right? A 21-9 victory doesn't come around too often at this level and to follow it up with another one the same is asking quite a lot. They got back to back wins over the last two world champions in pool play, I think you can handle some exciting matches that go the way of the USA!!

They were looking good in the 2nd as well and had a decent lead and then just kind of lost it. Regardless, I am happy they won.

Big crowd for a Thursday and a large group from Austria was in attendance. Great atmosphere. This weekend will be sick. Talked to Rich and thanked him for the periscope work....,,he was very humble and appreciative

They are the best teams but that second game is the difference between Phil and Nick being good and great right now. A great team closes that match in 2. The Dutch were down, reeling and Phil/Nick let them up. Its a great win that shows real progress for this team, also showed there is still a ways to go though.

Out of either Men's pools, no one is winning in two except against Doppler/Horst, who haven't won a set yet. It is coming to the day, were you can't get discouraged in going to a 3rd set.

Another piece of evidence that teams see Olympic as higher priority than $ sometimes -
Bawden/Clancey from Australia earned a spot in the World Tour Finals, but are instead playing this week in the AVC finals (Asian equivalent to NORCECA).
Unless there were travel or personal reasons, certainly seems like Olympic points (they get 500 if they win) were more important to them than the potential $s in Fort Lauderdale this week.

Its situational though. Teams that consistently win take advantage of chances, which Nick/Phil didnt there. I think right now they are probably the favorites to win though. Nick's sideout play looks the best it has all year I love how Rich consistently downs the incredibly obnoxious announcer. "We'll have to tolerate some noise from the announcer" For those on site does the announcer get annoying if you are there for more than an hour or so?

Thats interesting how you interpret that. I would read it as a lack of confidence in how well they would do when competing against the best teams versus the much weaker field at the AVC (basically just China who are good) Whats the prize money at AVC?
