Agree with MTC, Penn State lost 4 starters, all of whom had unique gifts. Not only POY Micha Hancock, who was a force of nature who often "willed the team to victory", but an inspiring libero in Dominique Gonzalez who could dig almost anything off the floor, as could DS Lacey Fuller. While they lost MH Nia Grant, she's replaceable. The first three I mentioned will be difficult to replace. Megan Courtney is still there, and she is a player who is more than her stats, who approaches Hancock in her ability to rise to greatness in clutch situations. Stanford loses 3. The biggest lost IMO is Inky but she will be back in 2016 and hopefully the freshmen fill the void. Gilbert may prove to be a significant loss but I think the libero position will be fine. But of course they return 4 key starters (3 whom were AA). And they bring in #1 rated recruit. So if you take that into account I really don't know. Penn State returns 4 key starters as well (Frantti, Courtney, Whitney, Washington).

Frantti, Courtney, Whitney, Washington and then Lee... that's some firepower. Hopefully their passing is real bad and setting is marginal at best! A lot will unfold this season, will be really fun to see who gets the draw and who ends up in the final four end of year.
Not to skip a year, but 2016 Stanford AND Nebraska will be beasts. Same with Wisconsin and Texas. I think these teams will actually be better next year and it will be...cray.

Nebraska super class will be seniors and they also have Foecke, Stivrins and Holman. Texas will have Ogbogu, Nwanebu, and Agbaji. They will roll through the big 12 Wisconsin's freshmen will be broken in and have more experience and Carlini will be a senior. Stanford will be relatively young but will have Inky, Lutz, Hodson, Alade (should she prove to be really good), along with the freshmen class that consists of Fitz, Plummer, Hentz, Keefe... A 6-2 or a 5-1 would be good for this team. Even Florida will have an amazing chance. Holston, Alhassan, King!

Big fan of these 4 and what they brought to the table in a certain skill or area. BUT, All Penn State's 2 touch people are back and older, wiser and stronger. Whatever growing pains that come will most likely be in the first half of the season, similar to the past few years. The replacements just have to be serviceable, show some growth during the season and PSU should be a contender again. Once a few of them emerge from the pack and take those spots things should settle in nicely.

My guess for preseason top 5 1 Stanford 2 Texas 3 Wisconsin 4 Nebraska Tie 4 Penn State of course it's the end of the season that counts! GO HUSKERS

PSU started the 2010 and 2011 seasons ranked Number 1, based on their finishes the preceding seasons. Rose stated that neither team deserved a Number 1 ranking at the season's start. Since the coaches almost always rank the preceding year's champion Number 1, why would they change this year?
Which team deserves a Number 1 ranking? That's an open question.

I would prefer to see Stanford and Nebraska as the top two until we see how the other teams jell.

I would prefer to see Stanford and Nebraska as the top two until we see how the other teams jell. Penn State is going to be the top team in the AVCA poll to begin with. Yes, Hancock and her heater serves are gone but champions have earned the benefit of the doubt, at least to start. Nebraska and Stanford haven't earned anything but the bridesmaid bouquet.

Penn State, despite losing the National POY, they are loaded. They should be the preseason #1 for sure.

GO HUSKERS I definitely don't see Wisconsin being ranked higher than they finished 2014. There is a lot of potential, but also too many questions with all the turnover. I expect between 6-8. PSU will be first I think, because they are NC. It's almost tradition. But I agree with Gobucky, it doesn't mean much until they start playing. It's basically a game of ouija at this point, mixed with some recognition of past accomplishments. A strange beast is the preseason poll.

I would prefer to see Stanford and Nebraska as the top two until we see how the other teams jell. I would prefer to see Stanford lose every match, but I don't think that's very likely. I wouldn't mind if Nebraska and Penn State lost every match too, speaking of unlikely but pleasant surprises. It would be especially nice if they played each other and somehow both teams lose.

I don't see why the last NC should start on top; but I know that is how AVCA works! GO HUSKERS

I don't see why the last NC should start on top; but I know that is how AVCA works! GO HUSKERS Preseason polls don't matter. Heck, all the polls don't matter. It's only good for penis measuring contests for us fans to talk smack about other teams. Unlike in Football, The AVCA poll doesn't determine postseason pairings. Nebraska's already number 1-It's the state with the least amount of culture.
