That pre-season team consists of 3 players from the state of Texas, but only 2 from the state of California (and they both suit up for Washington); that has to be an all-time low . . . Won't at all be surprised if Crissy Jones (from CA) is All-Conference by the end of the season.

Things just got tougher for Rubio - Ashley Harris decided not to return to U of A. Why, or where she went, no clue.

But I was getting the information from a former U of A player at the Manhattan Beach Open, and she got it from a member of U of A's coaching staff, so I don't know if anything was lost in translation, so to speak.

You know, there is little reason, other than injury and perhaps sheer incompetence (which I know Feller is NOT) that Cal shouldn't do relatively well this year. Schowenwise is one of the best MB's in the conference, they have experienced setting and Libero, Vukasovic is solid, and a number of top 25 recruits on the front line, including Jordan, Smith-Gooden, and Rennie. Seriously, on paper, this is, without question, a top 25 team.

I didn't follow that closely last year, but someone told me their biggest issue was with blocking, and that all the other stuff that looked bad was a result of poor blocking. I'm pretty sure they're working on that.

I'm pretty sure they're working on that. I think ay's analysis is pretty solid, but it may take them time to (for lack of a better word) coalesce. As for their blocking last year, I think with injuries and Rich having to shuffle players in and out, the timing wasn't exactly there and it created essentially a sieve that good teams exploited unmercifully. Continuity this year is key. If Rich can avoid injuries and settle on a good lineup early without much experimentation, then Cal could really surprise.

Does anyone else see Washington finishing a couple spots lower and Oregon State a couple spots higher?
Guess we will find out in a week or so.

2-5 will finish any random order this year. Oregon can also finish anywhere from 2-10. No idea how their freshman will hold up. Oregon St's MK Marshall is better than anyone on that roster and could do some damage to their schedule. Collectively they will need to be steady and get ready to bounce back after losses.
