Yikes, yikes, yikes... Passing and blocking. Fix those and they will be fine. Too many junk sets outside without elite hitters to put them away. Gillis and Bates are fine, but not against a well formed double block. Right side block started well but got pathetic as the match went on. Digs were too far off the net and defense didn't anticipate tips well at all. WKU played their as*ses off, great defense and consistent offense. Setter took some nice attacks and badgers just looked unprepared for those. I thought the refs called the setting pretty loosely, especially late. Both Carlini and the WKU setter got away with some chucks, but at least it was consistent. The Badgers will be better than they showed tonight. They need to be next weekend against UNC and UL. Anyone who knows WKU's program and players knows that they didn't "play their _____ off" tonight - that is how they play EVERY night. They have a different style and they do some of things that the elite teams do, but not with the elite height/approach touch. They serve the snot out of the ball, hit the snot out of the ball, and dig like crazy. They are a very hard team to play against and as Dorothy said, not the team you want to open up with.

I did think Gillis's passing got better as she went along. She looked good offensively. Funny Badgers beat WKU in almost all categories. I am disappointed but lots of credit to the Toppers, who didnt let a first set buttkick scare them off.
By set 4 they were playing a little better but not enough better. Learning experience, and I am sure plenty of people on the board are pleased with the outcome. I am not feeling too bad about it, but maybe I should. Lots of new parts.
One clear deficit...the second ball person if not Carlini is a real problem and they need to solve the absence of Thomas quick.

I know nothing about their team. They did all of the "snotting" you said they did, so I was impressed in my first view of them. I will be watching their season now. They play tough as a team, which I thought was an identity the Badgers lacked tonight.

Very bad. connections were off, which is to be expected. Some of it appeared to be the speed of the sets. Carlini forced a backset or two, but played pretty well. Serving did not seem to get WKU out of system at all.

Weird considering they spent 7+ days preparing for them... +10000 Yes, it's now clear the Badgers didn't even see tape on this Western Kentucky team that was returning 6 starters, let alone prepare on the court. Shef and his crazy coaching style. The first set was very nice, controlled vball. Then it all fell apart, poor passing, poor setting too..... Badger hitters were all over the court, Bates hit a few on the right, down the middle, from the back, Gillis was all over (she had great numbers, btw). It was all a bit messy and confusing on the badger side and WK played well...a very good team. Duello and Williams played just a few points.

I was wrong, but still had a sneaking suspension. Might want to call a mechanic.

Ugh, that was ugly, completely out of sync with each other, so many missed hits, a lot of passing errors. Some flashes of awesomeness but a lot to figure out

Do you notice anything unique about WKU's offense? Not particularly. Okay.

I didn't care who won this match, but to say that Wisconsin would be fine and that they don't get out-defensed much, and that this match was not the level of a Colorado State '14 match was just not an informed comment. WKU is by far one of the grittiest defensive teams in the country each year, and they are absolutely a team that on any given night can beat virtually any team outside the top 10 (and that might be underestimating them). When this season is all said and done this actually might be a perfect wake-up/example match for Wisconsin (or whatever you want to call this loss).

I think Wisconsin is going to have some growing pains.

Anyone know why Blake is ahead of Williams? Because she worked her butt off to earn playing time and it would appear she has outplayed Williams to date. FWIW, Blake, Kriskova and Carlini were 18-1-32 at one point tonight, probably around the point where Wisconsin had outscored WKU 41-23. I couldn't watch the match so I don't know what the adjustment was but WKU got something right in this one and Wisconsin collectively got stuck in a rut.
