Other than who finishes 2nd the biggest suspense in this tournament is can LSU, Rice or UCI force Texas to even call a timeout.

First up is LSU vs UC Irvine.
HC Fran Flory is entering her 18th season at LSU as the winningest coach in program history, while UCI HC Ashlie Hain is in her first year coaching at UCI and looking for her first Division 1 win.
This is the first meeting ever between these 2 programs.
LSU and UCI are both picked to finish 6th in the SEC and Big West respectively. But LSU received votes in the AVCA pre-season poll and looks to be a top 40 team.
Both teams scheduled tough this season and the first month is when both teams will either play their way in or out of the NCAA tournament as an at-large.

I am not so sure that LSU will be that good this year to be Top 25. The offense ran thru the setter (Pardo) and middle (Holman) connection which both have to be replaced. Also last year the outsides were not getting a consistently solid hitting percentage. One would have a good match and the next match would hit negative.
Will likely watch them play this match and the one against Texas over the weekend.

In women's volleyball this is the first ever meeting between LSU and UCI.
As I wait for the match I reminisce to baseball where LSU and UCI have a NCAA post season history with each other.
In 2008 LSU and UCI met in the baseball Super Regionals in front of an 8,500 sold out crowd at LSU's Alex Box Stadium. It was a zoo. For me one thing memorable about that series was that UCI pulled the rare hidden ball trick on LSU in Game 1.
So UCI threw the first punch destroying LSU 11-5 behind our Big West Pitcher of the Year and 1st Team All American ace Scott Gorgen. But LSU eventually came back and won the next two games to advance to the College World Series that year.
However UCI would get it's revenge by knocking out LSU in the 2010 Regional at UCLA just 2 years later.

Wow the TV announcer for the Longhorn Network is Paul Sunderland.
So this is where he eventually landed after being the voice of the Lakers.

The TV lineup listed Luna Tsujimoto as UCI's libero but actually it's Arden Davis wearing the different colored jersey.

UCI led by OH Victoria Dennis takes set 1, 25-22. She had some pretty good swings, going over the shorter block.

It's kinda funny to see Gregory so empty during a match.
