Quite surprised about Libero... But, lots of time left for Russ to play with the rotation and lineup. We'll see if Holcombe is playing there in a few weeks. I thought it be kendell. Didn't see match but did holcombe get most the playing time

With all the ds on psu's roster, guess it's a plus that it's a freshmans to lose. I've been very curious about the play of both setters. Nobody answers me before to thoughts in how they both played and who had edge Not really worried about their hitters. They have a plethora of good ones as well as middles. It was the setting and Libero position I think everyone's been curious about

It sounded like both of them had problems but also some bright spots. That was my impression, anyway.

I think both may have been nervous for their first start. Rivera has great possibilities at the serving line as a jump serving lefty. Would have liked to see some dumps/kills by her at net. Bryanna had a couple of setter dumps. Anyway, you can watch the match(raw unedited) on my YT channel(sfcpldc) in about an hour.

Rivera started and played until PSU hit 21 points in set one. Weiskircher started sets 2 and 3, playing until PSU has 23 and 22 points -- I think.
Weiskircher seemed to connect better with the hitters, but passing wasn't as good in set 1. I'd say passing is one of the teams biggest weaknesses. Holcombe seemed to be better than Pierce at the Libero position. Front row looks great.

Can't be nervous comming into psu a setter. Have to have that killer instict. Glass had it and so did Hancock when they started. Maybe psu was just lucky to have to great setters in basically back to back with year of carp in between. I have faith Rockwell will get them where they need to be though. To me though from the start of career Hancock always seemed fearless so did glass to same extent On another note, hopefully holcombe turns out to be a great under the radar Libero like her predecessors Gonzales and di Errico. If so that will be great news for psu

Very little to take away from this match folks.
Buffalo was not a good serving or hitting team and basically played backboard volleyball.
Tonight raised more questions than it gave answers.
Think about it. Russ went with Rivera and K. Pierce in the first game. I would assume because it was based on their practices against top level B1G players and guys.
Now based on two games against UB we give the starting role to Bryanna and Keeton(to lose). Absolutely both did a fine job but let's let things play out and see where we are on Sunday at least. Whew.
Stony brook and Villanova will be better.
There is zero lock on a lineup .
Wilma need to float serve. The roll shot jumper will NEVER score. Not sure what people are looking at.

Russ did exactly what he said he would - play 2 of the 4 freshmen, but it was not the two I expected. Keeton Holcomb played most of match at libero and was ok. PSU has a lot of work to do to get back to championship form.

Freshman Holcombe appears to have taken Lacey Fuller's spot at the starting DS. So two freshmen contributed in this match. I don't think Gorrell or Novakovic played. It seems like PSU did not play a crisp game, which is expected for a season opener with many new faces. Since Rivera and Holcombe played some key points, I hope Gorrell and Novakovic gets some chance to get their feet wet tomorrow. Gorrell is "banged up" and didn't dress for Buffalo.

I just watched the video of the match and came away with a few initial impressions.
Weiskircher seems to have a better connection with more net players than Rivera. That's not surprising since Bryanna has been in the gym with them a year longer.
Thelen is much improved and appears to be very comfortable and confident. She played well and looked like she was having fun.
Holcombe played at least as well as Pierce and looked really poised for a freshman playing in her first collegiate match.
Novakovic pretty much looked disengaged on the sideline.
Whitney, Courtney, Washington, Frantti and Lee did pretty much what was expected. Not sure any team in the country can beat us at the net.

Brianna has history also. Didn't she play with a few of her teammates on club ball also before psu.
